Stumbled upon this earlier, I know LCD's aren't exactly popular on here, but anything above 21" is pretty rare so thought it was worth a post incase anyone is looking.

Interesting. If you google 23.1 LCD, it shows up marine LCDs (1600x1200) by quite a few places. This place does them open-frame:

Nothing any bigger unfortunately :-(

As an aside, I was thinking (and probably not the first to ponder this..) but if you get a 30" 16:10 LCD screen, then it has about the same height as the viewable area of a 28" 4:3 CRT, so (provided it supports 4:3 via borders), it might be a viable alternative for some. It is obviously 3 inches wider, but then the steel mounting surround of CRTs is often something comparable.

(Of course, CRT all the way for 15kHz stuff in low-res, where scanlines are present...)

Although, if you want a totally square LCD, then they exist in 27inch !!!

I did exactly this with my MK2 cabinet, went for a 27" 16:10. The "25 that was in there initially is now a "23 so I lost some screen which is a shame but the old monitor needs a repair.

It's a nice comprimise though as I can switch out JAMMA for a PC and run Street Fighter 5 in it in widescreen.

Only thing I'd recommend is going IPS over TFT, because of the angle of the cabinet, screen can be hard to see under certain light.
