I know this is an old post but that's not actually true. The sound isn't from the cabs around you, it's a pre-recorded ambient track.

It would be great if with each cab you could add a short mp3 loop so that it would play that when you're near but I'm not sure if they have plans for that.

I have this and it is fantastic. Even on my low end PC I get some decent frame rates. Don't have any VR unfortunately but I am experimenting with streaming it to my phone and using something like Google Cardboard. 
Got my arcade setup thanks to Simply Austin on YouTube. Here's a link to his setup guide.

My cabs are running attract mode mp4's, so you get the sounds from each cab as you walk past.

Ah, there's a 2019 release I see but reviews say it's buggy. Might still try the demo, though.

I've seen emuvr before, but seems to be mainly based on playing retro consoles in a bedroom. Still cool, though.

I used to play this a lot, but haven’t really used it since I got real cabs. I’m a big VR fan and this took a bit of setting up with artwork, attract videos, etc, but it’s pretty cool. You can play with the VR controllers, but I had an arcade stick on a stand and it worked well. Really cranks the immersion up in VR when you reach out and can feel what you’re seeing. 
Here’s a couple of videos of my arcades, the narrow FOV is just the recording and much wider in your headset.

Looks really good! Can you only use teleportation to move around? A multi user version with avatars would be brilliant!

To be honest, it’s been that long since I played I can’t remember. Think so though. 
Looks like it hasn’t been updated since 2018, which is a shame. I’m sure multiplayer was on the radar. Definitely worth picking up on sale if you don’t mind a couple of hours setting it up.
