Posted: 16 May 2016 at 10:23pm
Hi Everyone

The cat's out of the bag a few weeks sooner than I would have liked but cest la vie.

Firstly, I thank Valentin and Thomas who have previously imported games for me and many other people and who will continue to do so, Paul Maddern who was kind enough to go to France and collect everything for us and of course Martin for final delivery. I'm not going out of my way to tread on toes, just trying to offer a service that's missing.

Back in January after the last Europe container left there was an uncertainty period of if another would be done, i'm not one for sitting around for too long wondering about what might be so I started to look into the process and had many an email exchange with Ken (Fatsgt) who was offering more games for sale on here. The idea of having games brought direct to the UK had been on my mind for a year or two, time to take the plunge.

Cutting a long story short a small number of us have bought machines in the USA and at present they are either just about to or will have set sail on a cargo ship and should land here in the UK at the end of the month or just into the beginning of June.

I have, with Ken's unbelievable dedication and considerable help on his side of the ocean organised a 20ft container as a first test run, I have kept this quiet so to go through the learning process with less stress.

Believe me, this hasn't been easy and the shipment got delayed twice because of various problems and a shipping company that hasn't gone out of its way on the UK side to be helpful so I thank everyone who has games in this load for their patience.

I plan on running a series of 20ft containers approximately every 60 to 90 days depending on how long it takes to arrive at a full shipment.

I have no intention of ceasing doing these at any time soon. They will continue until the service is no longer needed.

Additionally... Coin Op Warehouse

We are all well aware of black friday style bargains available at CoinOpWarehouse, due to having to hunt a few machines down, similar to how this started, myself and a few people have ended up with a few games sat there. Rather than route them via France/Germany it made sense to discuss filling a load. I can now extend that offer as well to your good selves.

Buy what you want from there direct just as you do with Ken, pay for it and then let me know the game and price paid and that it's at ConOp. I'll let them know its ok to stash it with our stuff and at the point the container is full i'll contact everyone and we'll ship the items.

We cannot transport games back and forth between Ken and CoinOp.

While CoinOp is a place to bag an absolute bargain, it is an unbelievable feeding frenzy and cabs often go within minutes, sometimes seconds of being listed. I strongly urge you if you are looking for a specific cab to ask Ken or myself to look out for them. You will still not see a Paperboy listed for $200 there so don't spend the next 5 years waiting.

All shipments are currently from Maryland to my facilities in Blackburn UK. Transit time is approximately 2-4 weeks from declaring the container full.

What do I get?
  • US based secure storage
  • Games properly wrapped and secured in the container to the best of our abilities.
  • A more "premium" blanket wrapping service is available direct from Ken at approx $25 USD - highly advisable
  • Fully insured against loss or write-off damage in transit from collection to UK destination (shipping fees can't be covered regrettably) - this is for the full container, not individual items.
  • Full unload, check, group and store in the UK ready for collection
  • Collection from 24hrs after arrival, storage can be arranged if needed. Martin knows where they are, all machines will be clearly marked.
  • Long term storage facility available on request.
  • Fully communicated throughout.
  • Ingress via UK port
  • All customs clearance, import fees, handling and transfers included
  • Conversion to direct UK power service available pre-despatch if required for small extra fee.
  • No commission, finders fees etc.
  • All currency conversions and fees handled.
So how much will this be? Surely we're talking £600+ - no my good friend, price is just £375.00 £395.00 GBP per game at present - this may vary very slightly based on a few factors such as time of year, exchange rates etc but after carefully watching all figures involved this was the number that covered all the bases properly.

Just buy your game and arrange with Ken or myself to have it stored and transported to the USA side before leaving - it can be held and delivered later if needed. The storage is limited, we can expand on it if we need to but that might increase costs.

This service is currently most suited to: Upright games, cocktail tables, pinball machines or things of roughly that floor footprint - we have 8ft height so we're fine that way - things like this count as one game.

I can arrange for sit-down games but these will be at multiples of the per-game cost - eg a Pole Position or Star Wars cockpit each takes the space of 2 upright games so your shipping fee would be 2 x the fee.

Yes, you can have a spare this or that packed into a game but it must be declared.

No, i'm not going to give out all the nitty gritty and secret formula of "how do you do it".

No, your shipping fee is not refundable, you can sell your game while in transit if you need cash and authorise release to another party on arrival. Let me know if you plan to do this.

In the interests of everyone's sanity I will not be posting who has what, all spaces will be on a first-come basis with confirmed full purchase of item, you will have to disclose your purchase price to me for customs purposes - devalue at your own risk as this makes up the insurance cover and any claim for loss/damage will be apportioned to declared value - similarly if you over-value something your fee may go up - just be honest, it does actually work out better that way.

UK power conversion

USA games will all arrive with a USA plug and requiring 110vAC voltage - I can arrange to have your game properly converted to 240vAC power on a case by case basis either via proper manufacturers jumpers on the power block or by fitting a step-down internally. Conversion to IEC power connector is possible at the same time.

I'm happy to confirm that the price for this is £25.00 labour charge plus parts.
If a transformer is required we will fit one appropriate to the load to the inside of the cab - the cost is £50.00.
IEC socket fitting is £5.00

Game repair - buy it broken, have it delivered working

Why buy a piece of dead wood to sit in a garage or corner of a room for X years while the Mrs nags you to repaint the bathroom or re-pave the drive or mow the lawn instead of working on your game when you could enjoy your gaming nirvana straight away. If you buy a game broken and want it repairing before delivery depending on the fault this could be done.

Price excess note

The fee covers you for a complete USA to me delivery for games upto a certain value - this is roughly $1500.00 USD - anything much over that will incur the difference in duty being paid - for example. If your game was $1700.00 you'd have to pay 20% on the UK equivalent of $200.00 (about £30 extra).

This may only be implemented if all the games are of a high value on that container.

It will be looked at on a shipment by shipment basis, where possible i'll accommodate people as best I can. This means that a $7000 pinball can't come over for £395.00 - the only way to do a blanket fee is to massively undervalue each game for declaration purposes to the authorities.

Onward transport

You'll still need to get your item collected from me when it arrives, fee does not include onward shipping although I can pre-arrange and take payment for you if you require.

I think i've covered everything, PM me for any further details, anything that applies to everyone i'll update this first post over time.

Admins/mods - any chance of a sticky?

Changelog

2nd October 2016 - Updated to reflect new price per item shipped of £395.00 - this is due to new SOLAS regulations causing an extra charge on the USA side and the now fairly permanent change in the USD to GBP exchange rate. Also updated extra service item pricing such as UK power conversion and added blanket wrapping notice. Also, made clear the insurance position and excess fees that may be due.

I've spoken to you in the past about this James, and you know that I'm very interested in bringing some cabs over.

What I wanted to know, from your experience in filling your current container, is what have you found to be the best method in sourcing cabs?

Would it be feasible to post wanted adverts for cabs on Klov that are located in and around the Maryland area? It would be good to get your thoughts on this

Thanks for sorting this out!

Thanks for sorting this out!

I started to write a reply and drifted off into quite a few ideas based on the chats we've had so I pm'd you.

Anyone else, yep, its possible, just check before you ship something with me that we have space or that it can go in this container. I'm happy to hold things for a small extra charge towards storage for the next container if needed.

May do a 40ft one later on but lets keep things simple and regular for now.
