Crazy excited to see a new Half Life game coming after a decade of waiting!

But gonna need a decent VR setup to enjoy it. What have people got? What's good and no so good. Prices seem to be wildly different, the Valve Index would obviously be the top choice but that's £650 odd eek!

I'm really looking forward to this too. I've got an Oculus Rift S & a PSVR, so I can't really compare to the higher end PC kits.

The Rift has always been decent, especially now it doesn't need the extra positioning things which were always getting knocked out of line. And it's relatively cheap. The touch controllers work well. Hopefully it'll work well with Alyx.

I've probably spent more time with the PSVR to be honest, since it's got really good exclusives like Wipeout and Astrobots. But I've spent a fair bit of time recently playing emulated lightgun games with the Rift, like HOTD.

Would be interested to hear from anyone who can compare the Rift with the Vive or Valve Index.

Depends on what you want to pay, lower end Oculus, higher Index, though I hear the index controllers are good at breaking, and it's more than 650 for the full kit, £919.00!!!

The Oculus Quest seems the one to get since it does mobile and PC now with a link cable, I have a Rift CV1, and doubt I will change till it breaks or some sh*t hot VR advancement happens.

PSVR while popular is a smearfest from all accounts, but not pertinent to PC VR.

2human, have you tried EmuVR? That's great for playing all the retro lightgun stuff.

I went to a great place in Amsterdam the other day MyEscape:Clubwhere they had the HTC Vive system very immersive:

Also been waiting for a new Half Life game since forever & always said I would get back into modern gaming if a new title came out, VR would be a good reason too.

Ooh yes that does look interesting.

I'm leaning towards the Occulus Quest at the mo, having looked at everything. £399 with the Vader Immortal game.

I've just got the plain old Rift, but it works great for me. I think I'll wait for the next gen before upgrading.

Lone Echo is by far the most impressive VR game I've played. The immersion is off the charts - mostly because they nailed the locomotion. Floating around in space and using your hands to push yourself about feels so natural, and it's about as close as I'll ever come to being an astronaut.

Worth the £350 alone.

That's technically a standalone headset, no PC required (but does have a streaming mode on the way).

I'm about to post a second hand Rift (original retail) and touch controllers if you wanted to just give it a go?

Been using my rift S to play Star Wars battle pod via teknoparrot. You can curve the desktop so it looks like the inside of the battle pod! I like!

I have quest and it’s excellent - although I don’t think it will run the new half life as a quest however you can tether it to a gaming pc to give it the power (and turn it into a rift) it’s needs to do so. Wireless VR is so good.
