Fellow VACers,

As many of you are aware, I like to buy a cab or two and was particularly saddened to hear that Ken and James are halting their cab shipping arrangements.  I’ve personally used this service a fair few times now and would hate for all of us to lose this opportunity to acquire machines so easily from the US.

Ken and I got talking and he asked if I could help coordinate shipping payments and pickups on the UK side and I’ve agreed to do so.

In discussions with Ken, we were trying to find ways to make it more cost effective to VACers to ship games from the US and I think we have worked that out. Ken has made an arrangement with Andy from Arcade Club for VACers to ship games in his container for as close to actual costs a possible. They’ve currently set the costs for the first container at £299!

After the first container the costs may go up or down a bit but our goal is complete transparency on where the shipping costs go.

Our plan is to fill 20ft containers approximately every 60 to 90 days depending on how long it takes to arrive at a full shipment.  After years of doing this and filling 15 containers at this rate, I’m confident we can keep up this pace.

All shipments will depart from Maryland and arrive in Andy’s main storage, 2 miles from bury Arcade Club . Transit time is approximately 2-4 weeks from declaring the container full.

What do I get for this £299?

  • US based secure storage until the items ship

  • Games properly moved and secured in the container to the best of our abilities.

  • As with previous shipments, a blanket wrapping service is available direct from Ken at approx $25 USD - highly advisable

  • Fully insured against loss or write-off damage in transit from collection to UK destination (Sorry, shipping fees can't be recovered)

  • Full unload, check, group and store in the UK ready for collection

  • Collection from 24hrs after arrival, storage can be arranged if needed.

  • Ingress via UK port

  • All customs clearance, import fees, handling and transfers included

  • All currency conversions and fees handled.

The Process:
1. Buy your game from Ken’s shipping thread here on UKVAC.  He does a new one for every container.

2. Ken will then transport your machine to storage and wrap it if you chose that option.

3. Ken will add your name and contact information to a spreadsheet that I can see.

4. When the container is close to being full, Ken will let me know and I’ll contact you to collect the storage fees. Fees will be due at the time of contact.  Payment will be made to  Arcade Club via bank transfer

5. Once the container arrives and is unloaded, I will let everyone know.

6.  People can collect Sunday to Monday at a pre arranged time - Arcade Club is manned from 10am -5pm Monday - Wednesday and 10am till late Thursday to Sunday.

This service is currently most suited to:

* The £299 is for a normal sized upright 80’s machine (Galaga, Asteroids etc.). We can arrange for sit-down or larger games but the price will be higher. A Spy Hunter or Star Wars cockpit would take up the space of two uprights so shipping costs would be doubled.

* You can put spare bits inside the machines but you still need to declare them.  Ken is also open to receiving packages (within reason) to put into the container for individuals who have a cab in the shipment.

* Your shipping fee is not refundable, you can sell your game while in transit if you need cash and authorise release to another party on arrival.

* You will have to disclose your purchase price to me for customs purposes - devalue at your own risk as this makes up the insurance cover and any claim for loss/damage will be apportioned to declared value - similarly if you over-value something your fee may go up - just be honest, it does actually work out better that way.

UK power conversion

Andy has agreed to help us continue to offer the power conversion service.  He can arrange to have your game converted to 240VAC power on a case by case basis either via proper manufacturers jumpers on the power block or by fitting a step-down transformer internally.  Conversion to IEC power connector is possible at the same time.

Costs:
Power Conversion:  £25.00 labour charge plus parts.

  • If a transformer is required we will fit one appropriate to the load to the inside of the cab - the cost is £50.00.

  • IEC socket fitting is £10.00

Outside Cab service:

If you find a cab at another location in the US and want it added to the container for shipping, you do have this as an option.  I know this is not a service Ken enjoys doing but he has agreed keep it going so people can acquire their grails.

$100 for one outside machine if you have one of Kens machines in the container.

$200 per outside machine if you don’t have one of ken’s machine in the container.

You pay to have the machine delivered to Ken’s garage and he has be make sure he or someone else is at home (all day usually), then he has to transport the machine to storage and load it into the container.

Onward transport

If you need to arrange shipping onward we can assist with that, within reason of course.

Good to see this service is still continuing.

It might be an idea to clarify how buying a cab from Coinopwarehouse might work with this system (if at all)?

Coinopwarehouse (COW) is not on the table at the moment but it's an option we may look into in the future.

@Toineke Onward shipping can be arranged, contact Andy @ ArcadeClub for details.

I can't speak for COW cabs, you'd need to speak to Ken directly.

Also interested in this for a few things. A well organised, scheduled service (regardless of lead time) would go down well with many.
