Control panel work...before:

Much scraping & paint stripping later:

More scraping and sanding later:

Did a few modifications:

1) Filled the rectangular coin mech hole (metal plate on the back, P38 on the front)
2) Drilled holes & enlarged centre hole for different shifter
3) Punched 4 new holes for buttons

Acquired a grotty old 4-speed shifter to go in:

* Stripped & cleaned.
* Sanded black painted steel part back to metal, removing all rust, & painted.
* Sanded scratches out of stainless top plate with various grades of wet & dry, and polished.
* Removed rust from shaft with wire wool, sandpaper & rotary wire brush. Polished & laquered.
* Cleaned plastic knob & polished out some of the scratches.
* Reassembled & lubricated.

Later on while testing found that the shifter wouldn't always stay engaged 'in gear', so did a few tweaks:

* Slightly widened levers which engage microswitches (pictured).
* Added small washers to reduce slop in levers (pictured).
* Added some large thin nylon washers to reduce vertical play of whole mechanism.
* Spaced pin which is screwed into shaft out slightly with washers so that spring would avoid groove which had been worn into the pin which was reducing effectiveness of spring.

Control panel 'done' for a while until I get new control panel overlay. (Steering wheel from a different mechanism, probably will be changed.)

Front door was a bit rough round the edges so made a new one, and relocated coin mech:

Laminated:

Few other misc things done:

* Stripped & repainted other metal parts (marquee retainer, vertical aluminium parts either side of front door, side repair panels).
* Touched up scratches & chips in wood with black paint.
* New t-moulding.
* Built old PC onto game board panel (I don't have a game PCB):

* Added 'marquee' 12v LED strip light (later dimmed this by adding resistor):

* Tidied up rear of machine, and added PC power button (stripping / painting metal grille still todo):

* Had a well deserved go on OutRun!
