Hey all , Again apologies this is not Arcae related as such , Although you could say it sort of is as I am doing this for my Bar I am hoping to get done.
Anyways 25 odd years ago I build a fully functioning jukebox (For my bar at the time) with a hacked PC & hacked Keyboard controller. The first build had no monitor it just had a board with printed track on the same as the 90's jukeboxes. A year or so later I upgraded it and added a screen and some better software that was built in DOS by someone else, although I cant for the life of me remember who wrote it as its just been to long. I have no clue why but I have no pictures of my old bar or the jukebox ! Prety sad when I look back as that would be nice.
After moving house the jukebox was lugged around to another 2 houses until it ended up in my current house and not been used for years and just placed in the corner of the garage. A few months ago after clearing most of the garage I could see it in the corner , still in one piece , but in need of lots of TLC. I could not actually get to it as to much crap in my way but I can see it clearly enough. My mind started then thinking of what to do with it , IE do I rebuild it and recommission it (It has sentimental value !), Do I chuck it away and start a fresh by either building a new one or buying an empty one and adapting it ( I have been looking at a sound leisure CD one that I could gut and convert if I can find one at reasonable money). In all honestly I just cant make my mind up what to do yet but either way both options will need software. I had a look and there was nothing good that I could see so decided to do my own as I can make it how I want it then and alter it as I see fit.
So after a few weeks I finally had something that I was , Fairly , Happy with. And here is some images of it working here :-

The screen has been set to s standard 1440 x 900 screen resolution as most (Not all i know) older 19" screen had this. I have based it on that but can alter it if I need to. It follows a basic format of 4 x CD's (Albums if you like) per page with 2 viewing windows. One is for what is playing and the other is for what's is coming up. Some of the settings are hard coded like key mapping (Its just for me so I could not be arsed to make this changeable ! lol) but you can set Attract mode & time (Plays a track after being idle for so long) , Free play or how many credits on button 5 & 6. You can also have Start full screen & also disable mouse. I have been testing for a few days and all seems to be working well and cant wait to get it inside a box and get it all set up !!! But to be fair I think that is going to be a while as I have lots of cabs to sort. But on the other hand and can make this all work and then I can listen to music whilst i fix , repair and get my arcade machines going again ! lol
So what do you guys think ?? You comments & opinions are always welcome even bad ones. I know at the minute its not ' Visually stunning ' but should be enough to get me started and I can start tweaking it if needed.
Cheers for ready,
Dave.
