It's been a while...

Just found an original and complete (other than the cash box) Astro Fighter cocktail, not in too bad shape.

Of course, everything was dead. PSU, Monitor, Boards, all dead.

The PSU now works as it should - drys, cracks around the connectors, and a new 7905 regulator.

The boardset I'll deal with once the monitor is OK.

The 100V monitor appears to scan (from the slight noises from the yoke), yet there's no EHT. It's an NEC PWC-636 board and original CRT. The three onboard fuses are OK, the fusible and ceramic resistors check out, it all looks good. Can anyone point me to a manual for this sort of monitor? If not then I'll probably component it and fit the guts of a Microvitec CUB in its place. The PCB and CRT are currently drying in the (temperature controlled of course) oven, and I'll power it up in bits to measure some voltages in a few hours. I just can't work on filthy equipment, plus it would have to be cleaned anyway.

Thank you!

Boards are corroded with legs falling off all over the place. This must have been dredged from a canal.

Looks like a terminal case, or an awful lot of hours to replace and socket everything.

Astro Fighter is a great game, and the hardware is pretty nice too.

I have one of 3 worldwide that save high scores and have an 11 position high score table...

Definitely a great game, but this one's worse than the Asteroids cocktail I have that died 19 times in three days - seller had it in a shed for nine years. Ended up removing every device, socketing, and replacing with new - and the EPROMs with ancient compatible EEPROMS. It's reliable now.

With this thing, the cage and edge connectors make it more difficult to fault find, although it doesn't matter where the boards go. And the dead monitor isn't playing fair, it maybe the LOPT, the first dead one I've seen in years.

Hewwo! 😅
Replying in the other thread, now, @Hexen !

You could do worse than to speak to @Lurch666 about this, too, mate ... I cannot speak to their availability ... but they are a total ledge for letting me see how far we could get with the boards!

Also, as long as the cage is OK (which it could be) ... you may have a chance at a full cab if you can push the right monitor in there!
