Control Panel was a good find, amazing the Ireland made stuff ends up in the USA

Not even a popeye control panel or marquee picture let alone anything for sale, amazing on the whole internet only 1 machine found and the arcade flyer. even my local arcade had a popeye but could of been any old cab with bootleg, there were quite a few originals in that place though because of the type games

Back to Millipede, not even a flyer of that! unreal there is so little about them for europe

Given the sh1tty job they made of slapping the black and blue paint on, surely it would have been easier to leave the original artwork alone when converting it to Super Bowling?

That said, if ever there was a case of leaving he original art as is, this is it. I think it looks really cool aged and weathered like that.

Thanks for that. Yeah its pretty much what I thought and even though its not perfect it was so cool seeing the artwork being revealed, and I love it!

Being an Atari though at least the electronic parts are available - I have a pcb, ar2, power brick & various looms / harnesses, so there's every chance the game will get up & running someday. If it was something more obscure I don't know if I'd have bothered

Apparently if that little bit of artwork wasn't revealed the original owner was thinking about chucking it, so which ever way you look at it at least one more of these rarities has been saved even if its not going to be 100% original.

Yeah I jumped on that panel as soon as I saw it, there can't be many of those around I bet.

I've seen more of these in the US than the UK, perhaps they weren't doing so well over here so they shipped a batch overseas?

Regarding Popeye - I spoke to Alpha 1 about this and he said he offered a *very* decent price to the owner in Sweden but they weren't interested in selling for any amount.
I did come across this advert the other day, check out the bezel that's been chopped off at the bottom. I wonder if any were shipped like that?

Also check out this Gottleib conversion - it has the bezel chopped off like the pic above, so who knows maybe it was one more like this I played rather than the Atari version?
One day hopefully some pictures of a real one on location will surface...

I saw a pic of that above flyer earlier and didn't notice that it had proper artwork glass, that makes it even nicer and would add it if I could find one.

yep, We could of been playing anything back then. I thought they were all proper machines, well I hadn't a clue then, I was mainly looking at what was on the screen. Ramapage, Road Runner, Rolling thunder were all originals I would say, Green Beret, 1943, POW, Double Dragon I doubt it knowing what we do now

So they could of been any old Jamma cabs, just cannot even picture what they looked like, Popeye was in the corner I think, there must of been another machine next to it before Rampage but cannot remember that one. Oh hold on, for some reason Joust has just popped in my head

I want pictures of the that arcade so I could see what the cabs where

I also don't really remember the slow down on Double Dragon, so probably likely I was playing a bootleg and it's one of very few I would bother with in bootleg.

The Marquee on these seems to vary and I assume then so does the speaker

Some have half Marquee half Speaker like many pictures of Time Pilot and Popeye, but as we know like the 2 different Flyers of Popeye one has tinted glass and other has artwork glass

So it seems this they did different versions, one with I assume the speaker on the right side like this must have in the picture below, does that speaker you have fit in the front top section then?

The closed side one, has that black part been added?, some it looks but there are also ones with the speaker in the back where the grill is and the front Marquee is fully open like the other top section you have

Anyway looks like space for a speaker

Just looking at the manual

So it has a grill over the right side in front of the speaker and the marquee it says Decal so it just sticks over the whole lot

Think that's wrong, there aren't different styles, it's ones that have been butchered and the speaker side cut out and like your thinking of doing, they mounted the speaker in the back when the grill is, like you say, you can fit other other one back if you find a Marquee for it at some point

Yep you got it, there is only one version, the one with the oval hole where the speaker mounts.

Luckily I have 2 tops, the speaker and the grill so I can knock up something temporary until I get myself in gear and work on the artwork, I really like the half size marquee which gives it a cabaret feel, I need to get a decent picture or scan first though. 4 slots need to be cut into it to allow sound to come from the speaker.

The other top I have looks home made as you can see pencil marks of the angles where the pieces join together

By the looks of how scarce the parts are for this style cab and probably the only control panel bagged already anyone else trying to restore a millipede cab is gonna have a major job. The loom i guess would be nicely hacked up, could be missing all original psu and ar2, i bet the marquee parts been hacked up as well, control panel would need replacing or major repair or find another complete one like this, no artwork available and cab probably gonna need repairs too and replace missing boards and monitor could be duff too

If you saw how much the jammered dragons lair i have needs doing and cost off all the parts ya probably be glad ya didnt get it buy something possibly as bad.

Wow that is the best one I've seen and it's been abandoned!!! The bottom edge looks perfect!!!

Indeed parts for this are like hen's teeth. You never know though, sometimes things crop up.
As we know there are 1 or 2 hoarders in this hobby

I don't think euro looms can be found, so I'm going to adapt the US one... apart from the connectors all the wiring is pretty much the same. I can see where most of it fits I just need to take the time to trace the connections and make sure everything is hooked up that needs to be.

I think the decision to use a removable top for the marquee rather than a glass or plexi is why all these tops are hacked up. You can imagine someone wanting to convert one only to find removing the marquee a right pain to deal with. At least some specimens exist so there's no reason artwork can't be reproduced though.

A DL is another thing entirely with all the laserdisc stuff, extra wiring, connectors, score panel etc. but what an iconic cab! Well worth the effort, have you got any piccies to show us?
