Hey! I just found this. I have been working on wanting to recreate the security board for many years. Since about 2009. I got to the point of figuring out the schematic and even bought a small cheap scope to try to determin what each pin does. Even bought some of the chips and a programmer that was said to be able to glitch the chip to extract the code. Needless to say that the glitch trick did not work on it as I believe the PIC controller was a newer revision. Anyway with AI helping me out with just about everything I figured AI could help either rewrite the code or build something like you are working on. I originally had 2 kits but wanted to try to replicate it to the point where I could have a spare set or even make it available to people that want to run it on real hardware. I have a lot of projects I'm working on but I would be glad to help out where I can. If we can get this security chip figured out on real hardware that would be great!
Cool, I have an updated build for my board now to try so should have some more updates in the following week

Cant wait for your results. I have a hand full of the PIC's around somewhere along with the programmers. I'll have to find them so I can get started on this myself.
One thing I was spitballing with Claude and Gemini was seeing if I could make lets say a raspberry pi act as a rom selector. I was going to use https://github.com/stevej0/DaytonaTestRom as a starting point. My goal is to have the arcade boot to a rom selection menu where you can select the version of the game you want to play and it will boot to that version of the rom. With a twin or more machine if this is possible I would also sync the other machines to the same roms for easy multiplayer support. I had the idea when thinking about trying to find a twin Daytona USA 2 and having the option to boot to the different versions of the game so I would not have to swap roms every time.

Another idea I had was to somehow intergrate a way for streaming interaction. Lets say I'm streaming on youtube and someone donates $1 it will invert the direction of the wheel. Or $2 will mess with the gears, $3 swaps gas and brake, or they could change the view or something.

I hope you, me, anyone gets this working as To The MAXX is my favorite rom hack. I have the GTX 2004 upgrade kit and its really fun but the one thing I love about To The MAXX is the ghost car. If GTX 2004 had the ghost car I dont think I would be even trying to get this working.
