I started this over the road a while ago and need to add more to it, alot more
smiley1.gif

Well, I was going to post some pics in the other thread "Show us your games room"

Problem is, things have changed alot over the years as I got more machines, had extensions, games building etc, so this will be from the begining of the first machines I had and as the collection grew

First Cab.... Operation Wolf Full Size in my lounge. I singed up on ebay to buy this machine, first thing I bid on after a few drinks one night, woke to find out I'd won it in the morning for £86.

The seller in Bridlington delivered the machine for like £80, it didn't work when he brought it in and obviously hadn't been tested, the monitor was arching from the EHT cap, the speaker wires weren't connected, the game didn't work properly. I won another pcb from ebay a few months later (ArcadeWarehouse), after a week I phoned them to ask where it was, hadn't even been posted, arrived next day in an old pizza box, but it worked and continued to till about a year back, just has a slight sound fault now, which ain't bad going as this was 2001 when I bought it

The Second cab I got was Adelphi Coin - Challenger Jamma cab. This came from the local tip, my mate rang me and said I got a "Games Console" come in today, took it home and plugged it in, but it don't work, after a while I realised that he meant and "Arcade Machine Cab" so he brought it back the next morning and I popped round on the way work to have a look, but by the time I got there, he had pulled it off the back of the truck and smashed the original blue glass, what a muppet, it was also abit loose. I wasn't going to bother with it, after thinking about it all day, I spoke to him later and said I'd pick it up in abit after work, by the time I got there again he had got one of the lads to move it and they picked it up with forklift and it fell apart, So it came in Kit Form when I got it. When he said it didn't work, it was only down to it not having a jamma board in it. Then he shows me some other machines, they looked like converted Video Poker, I looked in the back of one and it had a Konami Original in it, so I had that too, turned out it was only the Ninja Turtles, so that was my first Jamma cab and Board
smiley1.gif

The reason it was dumped was only because someone broke into the bottom coin door and broke all the wood, so I took it to my Dads, we repaired the damaged bits at the bottom, cut out a new front panel for coin doors, Rebuilt it in the back bedroom which is where the picture was taken, got the tinted glass cut, fitted a pc in there and ran mame on it. I saw another same cab on ebay not long after sell for about £45 with a faulty monitor, which was a bargin.

The Story Continues with Chase HQ.....

..... Continued

But before we get onto Chase HQ, I have just remembered that was my 4th machine. It was one of the last games I played in the 80's in an arcade in Leicester along with Double Dragon 2, Xybots......

Cab number 3 Is The Ninja Warriors

I said to my mate, if I see one of these machines I am going to buy it, and I nearly didn't. Main reason was, I couldn't get one in the house. I seen one on Ebay.com and wanted to see one in the UK, crikey....even Leicester had one so must be a few about, but it seems not.

Searching ebay Coin Op Section everyday I came across another Taito Multi Screen cab, called Sagaia, had seen it in the Emulators of course
smiley1.gif
It got me thinking, maybe I could get the ninja warriors working in that cab. It was a twin screen and not the 3 screen as The Ninja warriors was.

sagaia.jpg

The Sagaia cab was on ebay cheap, James needed it gone and no one was buying it, the next time it was on, it was Take this machine for FREE, yes a twin screen mega rare cab FREE. I had also noticed what looked like Ninja Warriors artwork at the side of Sagaia, was temtped to ask if it was for sale, but thought it would be on ebay if it was. In the end Our good Man Dsyde swapped another cab and had this Sagaia in his EC Collection, I didn't know it was himself at the time as james said he done a deal with another collector

Another week or 2 later, The Ninja Warriors is listed, I couldn't believe it, I sent a message asking the size etc, and said I would like it, but not really got anywhere to put it at the moment, James wa asking to please bid as he needs it out the way. In the end I slapped a bit on and won it for the start price £250

A friend Hired a van from near his house and we were off to pick it up. James told me it was shipped over from Germany. The only place I could fit the machine was in the old Garage

These were the ebay pics, and below when I got it back in my garage.

..... Continued

Well Chase HQ was another game I liked, though I like OutRun more, but I had been playing Chase HQ quite abit on the Taito Emulator with the PC Steering wheel and Pedals, it was pretty awesome. I nearly bid on an Upright with some damage to the front panel as it was in Leicester, but I didn't in the end.

I was desperate to get an OutRun DLX Sitdown at this stage, not that I had anywhere but a crappy concrete sectional garage to put it in. Though my early plans were to have a new Garage to replace that one and extension on the Kitchen and loose the old wooden Conservatory with sort of inside Toilet.

With all the searching of OutRun DLX machines and non for sale, I did see one on ebay but it was like £1500 or 2k at the time and it wasn't on long. It was with all this searching I found "Nick Hutt" plastered all over the internet searching for DLX Space Harrier.

I kept searching, and every site had Nick's wanted posts. One night I found something, a guy said he had a Space Harrier and OutRun DLX machines he got from Auction, wondered what they were worth and was asking on the interenet, I didn't bookmark the page, but the next day I thought I would send Nick a message and tell him anyway, but after getting in touch... I could never find the page again, no idea how old the post was, where it was but I searched and searched.

It was then Nick told me about Jamma+ and that I had missed an OutRun DLX only a few weeks before on ebay for £150, gutted after he told me about Completed listings, it was no longer there, but gave me hope to get one. I realised that the time that one was on ebay, I was ill at the time, and I must be ill to not look on ebay. I do remember another time I wasn't well, I wanted this machine, Taito Laser GrandPrix, It was in Mablethorpe or somewhere like that, cant remember exactly. This was the machine that was on the Laserdisc games sites. I did research on it and thought it's not gonna be easy to get the parts for it, it was running another driving game according to the seller, but googling that it was only on the MSX, so not sure what game it was, but could of had it running via emulators now. This is the photo from ebay years ago.

lgp_02.jpg

I know i had joined here by this time, as I asked another member if I won it and they won another machine he had on at the time, could we share a van. I was ill at the time so not sure when I could go, I couldn't wait for it too end and hoped it would sell cheap, only to be outbid at the end and it sold for like £127 I think. Now a couple of years later this machine comes up in conversation, I was collecting a machine from Finny, Dragon's Lair man, he was showning me round his place and I mention this machine and it turns out he was the person that won it, he had a contact in the USA while he's buying Dragon's lair and Space Ace stuff and has been over there alot, so goes on to tell me that he know's a guy in the USA and he has all the insides for this machine, he sold it on for a shed load to this guy shipping it to the USA. So I had zero chance of ever winning it by the sounds of it, shame it left the UK
smiley18.gif
I so wanted it at the time as I love sitdown machines

It was that year when I was working over Skegness one day, I wandered round the arcades for Lunch, They still had an OutRun DLX near McDonalds and a Cockpit Chase HQ, which was switched off. Over the road from McDonalds was another Chase HQ which sat against the wall opposite that BIG Simpsons machine that was posted on here.

That Chase HQ was working, but the Turbo Button was missing, had a go anyway as I always liked those sit in driving machines, but that was the first time I'd had a go in one, I'm pretty sure the one in Leicester at Thomas's was Continental Circus.

The last Upright Chase HQ I saw in Leicester was in Mario's Chippy which we often did on the way home from the night clubs.

With No OutRun DLX machines coming up, and the next year the Chase HQ machine that was working now turned off too, I started asking questions and talking to people at the arcade, I pestered them for about half a year, ringing every few weeks talking to one of the engineers, I spoke to a women on reception and told her I wanted to buy a machine, She said "Good luck, he's never sold one to anyone in the public before" so I had to keep upping the offer, till £300 pushed his button and struck a deal.

I desperatley tried to get the dimensions of the machine, but there was nothing, hardly even a picture on the net, I should of got a High Top Transit, as the machine had to go in at an angle. There were roadworks on the way there and back and it took me the whole day to pick it up, get it in home and take the van back. About a week after I look on arcade flyers to find there is a new flyer and it now has the Cockpit Sitdown dimensions on the back
smiley36.gif
oh well.

So after getting it home and lifting it in the front door, left it in the hall way and drop the van back. Now I have the job of getting it into the lounge, but that means it has to come apart.

Chase HQ wasn't the 4th machine, as you can see there is another Jamma cab in the 3rd picture, it's a 26" screen and thought it would be good for Double Dragon, That was another machine I would love the original, but after asking people here, it turns out we never got them over here, so the one I played was probably a EC cab with control panel and instructions on Marquee possibly, but if a DD did come up for sale, I would buy it..... come to that later on

This jamma cab was on as faulty and an Op 1/2 mile from my house was selling on ebay which I won for about £60, I didn't keep it long as I didn't like the big screen or the cab

So Chase HQ was the 4th Dedicated machine

Nice dusty screen and glass from the years of the arcade, Turned out it was only the monitor faulty, but the PCB was so badly burned it was scrap. The monitor then came from Nick Hutts Space Harrier when he got the original for it. I got the shifter replaced so it had Turbo button. I had no keys when I got back with it, the lock on the gear shifter I drilled, as to take it apart, you had to take the rear marquee out, remove all the wiring from the rear section. I think I then drilled the coin door as I had to remove that also to get it through the lounge door, when I opended the coin door, I found all the keys for the rest of the machine
smiley36.gif
so one lock trashed for nothing, never mind, when I opended the front door I found the original manuals
smiley20.gif

So machine Number 4 was in the Lounge, which was starting to become an arcade. When I saw a Deluxe Thunderblade machine on ebay, I was so tempted to bid on it and sell the dining table, sometimes wish I had, as the table didn't stay much longer
smiley1.gif

Machine number 5 was.....

OutRun Sitdown DLX

My wish list at the time was OutRun DLX, Chase HQ (tick), Operation Wolf (tick), The Ninja Warriors (tick) Mame Cab (tick) Double Dragon, yeah would like original, but non for sale, and I was buying more machines with Special Controls or screens more than anything, or like Road Runner/Indiana Jones, stuff you couldn't just pop the PCB in a jamma cab. Also wanted a Sitdown driving cab to put PC so i could play all the classic driving games, I was more about getting as many playable games on a limited space at that time. So wasn't really after many others.

Till I decided to have the kitchen extension done anyway, also a seperate garage at the same time, but I had to chang the plans to have a big extension joining both parts up, so I could put the machines in, so I would have space for OutRun

In the picture of the Chase HQ seat, there was also the remains of a Video World Cocktail Machine

That was also from the Tip. My mate saw the smashed up machine and said whats that, I said it's a table machine, so he then tells me he was going in the tip on Saturday with his boss and said there was this thing on the back of a open back truck, he said to his boss whats that and he said it's a Table Arcade, it was all complete and good nick.

So that was the machine I got Sunday, but the morons at the tip had smashed it up, probably to see if there was any money it, never mind I would of gave them loads more than what they would of found in it. So I still put it in the car and brought it home to rebuilt it, The contents were complete with game board, which turned out to be Circus Charlie. Years after I got some adaptors and tested that very board to find it still worked and we both love the game after playing it
smiley1.gif
it really is good fun

It's been the same old story since the begining really

So OutRun DLX was going to be my last Dedicated cab really, as I hadn't the space, then I was planning on have more jamma/Mame/Driving Mame machines so I could play all the other games I never got the chance too

Back then most of the emulators weren't 100% on many later 80's games, OutRun was working but on the system16 Emulator, some sounds were missing and it was a pain trying to change gear, specially with a PC wheel, someone also did a Force Feedback add on for it and I was playing with my Thrustmaster ferrari wheel at the time with FFB, it was awesome to be honest, if all the sounds had been working it would of been the best

So I decided I wanted to own the Sitdown DLX, never played on one till I was in Skegness a year before I got one.

The next Outrun that hit ebay was a nice one, the member is on here, I offered him £1000 but he had a better offer of 2k, turns out he was just lucky that the developers wanted to buy it while working on outrun 2 was it, can't remember.

The next one was on ebay, Offered them £1000 and still no go, again it was taken off ebay. There was another memeber on here that had the one I missed for £150, it had Turbo outrun board in it, so the movement didn't work, so I offered £800 or something but they were too greedy and wanted over £1000 so £650-750 profit wasn't enough without original pcb hey

Next comes a Message from Nick Hutt, there is a guy advertising one in a trade magazine, so I got in touch with the seller, offered him £1000 as I didn't want to loose out again, to be honest I reckon if I offered him £600 I could of probably got it easy, he hated ebay even back then and wouldn't sell on there ever.

I did ask him if he knew of any Hang-On Ride On were for sale so I could hire a can and pickup at same time, but nothing came up, so got the Tail Lift Van and went down London way to collect. Turned out he had a Sitdown Spy Hunter too, but he was keeping that one. He had an Upright Hang-on sat there too, but I wanted the big machine
smiley1.gif
I had a snoop round and there were some big Chrome bars, what are they from I said, Galaxy Force II DLX was the Answer, but no machine
smiley6.gif
so there were some around

We had to Reverse the van down a narrow lane to get to the lockup, my mate said, is it that car thing your picking up, as he could see the back of it, Oh yes I say, Great ain't it. He showed me it working, I handed over the cash and loaded it up. When I got back it had to have a few goes in on it in the crappy garage, just my luck as it didn't work, nothing on the monitor at all.

Monitor out and I start working on it, thinking it will be a bad joint or something loose, but no chance, in the end I was just checking random components. It was a bodged in 25" hantarex screen, MTC9110 jobbie. So in the end I check this Diode with the meter and it's not reading right, and on pushing it with the meter probe, it breaks in half, after replacing it were up and running. This is probably a week later, so I had a few blasts on it and great it's all working. though as it got colder It wouldn't move and then next it just made a loud noise and nothing, so I left as is for a while. But wow, I was so happy to own such an amazing machine/game, has to be one of the best machines to have in any collection, just so cool and great to play
smiley20.gif

OutRun0001.jpg

OutRun0002.jpg

So my aim at this point was to get an extension done, forget the garage and kitchen i was planning, i thought about a building down the garden, then decided against as i wanted it part of the house. DThe initial idea would of been about 10k for kitchen part and same for seperate garage, not that much more for one big extension, which ended up at something like 27k

The plans were to have a few dedicated machines, mame cabs etc,but that plan went out the window everytime i got more space, qhen the crazy chance to get a Space Harrier came up, which mustof been machine no 6 i couldn't turn it down

I nearly did sell the chase hq at one point, it's never because I want to sell any, just space and money, but the monitor packed up and after playing about with the Full Throttle pcb in it, now the sound is really low on PCB, so couldn't sell it then

Can't see me selling any of the classic machines now. To hard to replace most cabs

After getting the Outrun. Nick was still trying to get that Space Harrier DLX

There was a listing on ebay in Ireland for one, they wanted about £1000 and nick was in touch straight away, but something seemed abit dodgy, they didn't have any pictures and it wasn't available to be viewed.

Turns out it was an elaborate scam after seeing how desperate he was to own one, someone thought they could con him out of aload of money, sad how people get like this when they think a chance to make some easy money comes along

The next Space Harrier came up for sale in Germany, Nick bid but didn't manage to win it
smiley18.gif

There were some on for sale in USA but to expensive to ship over

Then another came up in France, he bid and won it and a trip was set to France to collect it, finally he got one, needed abit of work and hadn't got the original monitor, but great to get the machine of his dreams

Just before he got that one, another member on here "Pinx" was telling us there is one in a Car Park in Cornwall, yep a Council Carpark. It was spotted while working in the area. I know Nick didn't believe it and Pinx wasn't bothered about those type machines. No one else knew the location else it wouldn't of been there long

Turns out it was there for 2 years. Nick kept pestering him about it and in the end, just said he was talking crap to wind him up, which worked. The next time Pinx was near by, he knocked on a few doors and found the owner.

Turned out he had Space Harrier and OutRun DLX in the back garden, he built a wood shed around the OutRun which didn't work well and had suffered worse than the Space Harrier, don't have pictures of the OutRun there, but the Space Harrier, these are the pics Pinx uploaded for us

sh2.jpg

sh3.jpg

sh4.jpg

sh5.jpg

sh6.jpg

I know it seems crazy now, but no one on here was really interested in it and most said it would be scrap and not worth bothering with

Good job I think different, anything is worth saving and Pinx sorted out a deal with the owner and I arranged through him to go with a van and collect this for me and the OutRun DLX for Nick

I paid £100 for the Space Harrier, and £150 for the OutRun. With the cost of the van, fuel, food for the 3 of us, it worked out at about £540 for both with collection from Cornwall. The guy didn't even have a mobile, so I never spoke to him till I got there

The OutRun he said worked before encasing it in the wood hut, obviously didn't work when he insisted on plugging it in. He got them from Local Auction and these were probably the 2 machines I saw posted on internet, asking what they were worth, the site I didn't book mark and never found again

Split the cost down the middle for the machines and shipping, as Nick constant searching was what made this dream for us happen. So we paid £270 each machine. I stored the OutRun for him at mine while his extension was being built.

outrundx2.jpg

Before being in the Hut, this would of been one really clean example of an OutRun DLX, it was complete with all stickers, wheel and badge. Mats, trim paint work. Nothing changed, missing, just condition suffered due to location
