I would have a guess that it just runs on the ARM processor and not the actual FPGA part of the Cyclone V chip, so its pretty much just running on something like an Android box, but I suppose it would give more options to play games that arent implemented in the FPGA yet.

Just looked it up and its not really the Mister running GroovyMame, from what Ive read its still needs a PC to run GroovyMame on and the mister core itself receives the video data and sends the control data over a network connection to the PC running GroovyMame.

I'm confused. MAME is software emulating hardware. How/Why is anyone attempting this on FPGA? Must admit I know bugger all about FPGA, though.

It’s to increase the library as mame has thousands more games than mister.

I have a mister setup and although I like it I do think the cores are really not all that different to groovy mame for the most part.

The mister acts as a super low latency graphics card that can be powered over a network by pc. As a few have said this allows you to play all sorts of things and video on a crt without messing around with drivers etc. It’s a really cool project.

Didnt read the info fully, does it just do video over network or does it also do the controls back from the Mister itself to the groovymame PC?

Was thinking it would be handy to setup for a cab with a mister in but if it doesnt relay the controls back to Groovymame then would seem a bit pointless in that type of setup, other than being a cool tech experiment.

No audio passthrough as well from what Ive read.

TakiUdon got Retroarch running on MiSTer. Hoping that goes further.
This I believe is running on the ARM core on the Cyclone V chip and not using the FPGA part of it.

I think it does controls too but I’m not 100% it was fully working before the tragic death of the project.
Yes, looking at the Github now and it does mention that it features Audio and Controls now, which really does make it more useful.

  • Audio stream
  • Inputs stream (keyboard, mouse, 2 joypads

Im actually like this more now as I have a pair of MISTers in Chewlix's (Horizontal and Vertical), while Im not bothered about all the CRT and 15KHz stuff having more games available to play would be huge bonus, saves having to swap the jamma edge connector, HDMI cable and Audio cable over to a PC to play other games.

Yup, using the ARM core. Still super useful having FBA Neo. Especially since 'accuracy' and 1:1 with the board are two different things.
