I’ve just been fixing the same cabinet as this. What they did with that side art made me cry 😂 I wish they had just got new art that fit. Great video otherwise and the new jamma mister looks great
Looks good. I've been working too on an arduino RFID reader in connection with an raspberry pi. Based on the presented card it starts a game. I dropped the ideea since is to much work to register the card for one game and so on.
Cool stuff.
No one will design his own NFC/RFID reader. You use what you find on the market. Mine was uglier and one had to hold the card on it. If. No card was prese nt there was an static image with place your card. I abandoned the ideea since I'm an hardware guy not an software one. Also, @Georgian2 , I looked at their RFID solution and kind of wondered ... why not round ... and smaller? So that it fitted in the circular design of the panel. That is not me dissing their work ... that's me thinking to myself about what I'm going to do when I get one of these damnable things.
Little bit of this and that ... doesn't have to be these exact things ... but I'm sure I can figure some shit out.No one will design his own NFC/RFID reader.

but a pressing question for me, that cabinet in the video looks fantastic, is that an original cab, and if it is, is everyone in that video a bloody giant..why is the cab so small
An RFID/NFC reader could be behind an black plexi. It doesn't have to be outside.
Depends if you want to sell or build for you. If you want to sell, you won't be designing your own (hardware+software) since no one will pay the price that you will have to sell for. What Heber did is an clever universal solution. It looks cool if you can print some artwork on the carsd. Even better would be magnetic figures that you place on top of the cab. Like the Tonie Box (where I got the ideea from).
It did take quite a lot of time until someone took the FPGA chip from DE10 nano and used it on own PCB. Way better than designing just an jamma board for the whole DE10 nano dev board.
i have a RFID card reader attached to my MiSTer, cost very little and was really easy to set up, pics below, i really probably need to get someone to do something 3d for me at some point, as it just sits on top, but launches the games and is easy to set up and configure the cards...

I feel missunderstood now. There was no negativity. As an DIY-er I can only support self made stuff. Will you go for an embedded antenna on the PCB (like all the cheap arduino compatible readers) or are you all in and designing an coil antenna? Coil antenna could be shaped and fitted anywhere but maybe a little harder to create and make an matching circuit for it. I wish I knew more about coils and high frequencies. Also ... errrr ... yeah ... Georgian, I'll be making an RFID reader ... no amount of odd negativity will stop me 😅
Honestly, I'll probably just bend-it-break-it with something that I can find at Mouser / etc (see previous links as example of the type of thing - not the LITERAL thing - that I mean) that will do the job ... y'know ... push it around until it fits into the space that I want it to fit into.I feel missunderstood now.
