Hi Guys.
I bought this cab a few weeks ago. It was working but looked well tatty. It's the first one I've ever owned and overhauling it seemed a bit too daunting but the monitor packed up so I had nothing else to do except look at. I decided to get stuck in.

This is what it started out like.

(I knicked this pic off forcefulfil's arcade clearance thread as that's where I got the cab from.)

First I stripped it down to the bare cab.

It was minging inside and took ages to clean out.

The control panel was completely butchered!

But my mate sorted it out.

So here it is getting some TLC in my conservatory. There's a few spare parts on the table lol.

I ripped all the old wiring out and the transformer then rewired out to the joysticks. The PSU was already in there, I just mounted it neatly.

Phil helped me source a new monitor (Many thanks mate) and I had some bumpers made for around the bottom where it was well battered. A local printer did me a new overlay for only 25 quid and I had the coin doors and surrounds shot blasted. I sprayed all the metalwork black and fitted some new T-moulding. This is the end result. Not entirely back to original but not bad for two and a half weeks work.

Now I have to learn to play the thing.

Thanks for looking.

Great work.

My first resto was a Robotron. The trouble was, once I'd rebuilt the CP, dumped a new monitor in and fixed the boards, I just wanted to play an never put on the new art work....!

Excellent work !, that control panel is impressive. Did your mate actually weld new bits into the holes ?, some amazing welding skills if that is the case

Wow, impressive first resto, esp. with just 2.5 weeks work. Just one question, is that bezel right? It looks like a Moon Patrol one to me? Does not detract, it still looks awesome!

Dan

EDIT for does/does not typo!

Hi Mesmeric.
Yes my mate cut all the little holes into one huge one then made plate to fit that and spot welded it in. Would have cost few quid if I'd had to pay for it but I didn't

Hi Dan P
Well spotted on the bezel. It's a williams multi thingy. I'll get a new one sorted sometime but like you say it looks pretty sweet with that one for now.

That's an amazing transformation. Just finding a printer who will do arcade stuff these days is hard enough but getting the welding done as well so quickly! Superb job.

I wish I had your mate to do my control panel (also a Euro Roby). I gave it to a mate of mine mid December last year and he's still not finished it. He fabs custom bike parts so it's something a bit different.

Last time I saw it he'd done a fairly good job of heating it up so badly it was all warped out of shape - though he had filled all the holes admittedly. Current status is i'm waiting for him to fit captive bolts so I don't get any screw heads showing on the new panel.

I think I'm going to have to just get it back off of him and send it to someone to make me a new one. Won't be giving anything to him to do in a hurry again!

Very, very easy to do without decent heat transfer away from he panel. Wooden under panel does away with the need for captive or bolt heads showing, bolted to cp with retaining clip bolts at either end. Also gives sticks correct height.

I have to admit the bolt heads let it down a little but I jsut wanted to get it up and running. I think welding some countersunk screws in was the best solution. I can always get a new overlay at some point and do that.
