To buy, replica or build: NeoGeo MVS-4-25?

Hello all, I thought I'd ask here for opinions on this! I'm after a NeoGeo MVS upright, ideally a 4 slot cabinet, purely because it's a personal favourite. I've got the base 4-slot MVS and games, but a cabinet is obviously the main attraction here:

I have three options that I can see:
  1. Wait and see if a US model appears available to buy.
  2. Buy a modern replica and swap out the internals.
  3. Bodge together something from another cabinet.
I feel the last option is a sin, but I could disguise an eletrocoin cabinet to resemble a US cab for example. Sounds like a lot of work for something inauthentic though.
The replicas are nice, but cost a fair bit (~£1000) and then I'd need to source a suitable CRT.
Otherwise it's a case of waiting for one to pop-up in sales? I've seen some Japanese models come and go (one sold today!) but I haven't seen a US cab go.

What do you think is best? Obviously it's all a matter of opinion, but I trust your opinion!

As you say all a matter of opinion but you've already (from what you've written above) talked yourself out of option 3...or you want us to confirm it for you. ;):giggle:

Then if there is little hope of option 1 happening then it's option 2 and keep waiting on option 1.

But then you make a Bitsa which is fine if deep down you're happy with that.

Personally I'd wait for the US or go another direction ie, MVS Electrocoin or Japan SNK. :)

Who would you be sourcing a replica from? If you had Attention to Detail on the case I'd be confident getting 1:1. From others less so.

Personal preference realy each option is viable, I build a cab 25 years ago (Just a mame one). Not because I couldn't get one but because I fancied the challenge, I did think of getting a prebuild cab or jamma and fixing at the time. Originals are great and obviously some purists want them only , again personal preference. With an original remember maintenance of CRT ect , do you have the skills to keep it going ?

Dave.

Why not put a wanted ad up for a a dedicated US cab both here and on the Facebook group (If you're on Facebook).
You never know :)
It is worth doing that as you never know

Just keep an eye out for the scammers though, deal with well known members and make sure they are genuine photo's of machine for sale, really need to do your homework before getting to excited

This is all great, thank you everyone. Regarding Dave’s point above, that is fair, I lack experience here for sure… but it’s something I’ll have to learn as it’s CRT or nothing as I personally dislike modern screens in a classic cabinet.

Regarding the replica, rollmodelarcade.co.uk do the model I’m after, but I think I’m leaning towards an original. Thank you!

Check out

He has contacts in the US that occasionally have them up for sale. I’ve got a four and six slot on the way and I bought a neo-29 via him last year too

Four slot has been converted to tekken but I’m going to sort that
