Tri-Sync Monitor - what's needed for my Naomi?

Hi all,
My Naomi has currently got a Shanghai Novel CPT 73SX01Y22-DC23, which is OK but convergence in the corners is really bad, no matter how much I adjust.

As I'm currently stripping, painting and chopping my Universal with the goal of turning it into a New Net City, I was wondering if there was a particular Toshiba or Sanwa monitor and chassis combo I need? I'm planning on keeping it for JVS for the foreseeable, but being able to hook up 15 and 24khz stuff in the future would be ideal.

Any info on what I need, and what is most easily available would be great. And do let me know if you have anything for sale!

That's the crt model number. That's not a pureflat crt is it? At a guess, i'd say you have a Sanwa chassis connected to that - probably a 29E31S (or 29PF31 if it's a pureflat crt), which is a 31k only chassis. If you're not bothered about 31k (and it's not pureflat) i'd say a Nanao MS9-29 is your best bet. I don't know off the top of my head exactly which crt you'd need though to match the curvature of that crt.

The WG D9200 is tri sync and has the same curve as the 29E31S. They are quite common too found in "need for speed" cabs that are sold cheap.

The remote board is tiny compared to the 29E31S remote so it won't mount the same under in the controller panel.

Makes for a great all round cab IMHO

Downside is nobody will fix the chassis if it goes.

The NFS cabs sometimes also had Kortek multisync monitors in (KT2914 I think) from what i've seen. Yeah the WG D9200/D9400/D9800 chassis are fine when working and produce a nice picture, the pureflat ones also, but are complete nightmare to work on. I've got at least 4 D9400 chassis that all have a variety of faults and a bunch of nice pureflat crts that currently have no working chassis!

Thanks so much for all the info all, that's really helpful. I've been doing some research on the Wells Gardner and it does sound fairly infamous for being a total nightmare! I'd be tempted if one was available to see if I could repair it, but for convenience the dream would be a tri-sync that's ready to go, as I would be using it for Naomi stuff for the forseeable.

Re: my current set up, I think you're right TB, it's a 29E31S thats in there. I've recapped it and it's working perfectly, it's just the Chinese monitor that is the weak link unfortunately >_<

I've asked the seller of this NNC on sale for ~£800 😲 (from this search) whether it is possible for them to include a few photos inside the rear monitor cover, because I remembered that either yourself or someone else around here was looking for a NUC/NNC or trying to put one together.

I think it's over-priced, but the monitor says 'OK' on it and there's a snowflake's chance in hell it's what you're needing. Perhaps we could talk them down to roughly (or just over) half that and we can find some other folks that would like to 'go in on this' to supplant their NUC/NNC cabs and/or parts for them. For example, I'd put £50 in for the leg covers. 🙂

But, yeah, I think that this is drastically overpriced!

Great minds think alike dude, I've messaged him this morning too! Thanks for thinking of my search though, I'd be well up for going in on it with other UKVAC'ers if we all need some bits. It certainly looks like it's had a hard life in a Japanese arcade / damp shipping container though!

It also looks like there may be a stash of other Naomi bits in there too, and a delightful moudly bit of MDF.
