don't suppose you know what resistor you should check on this chassis that relates to brightness,like R90 on the mtc9000?

I'd look at R187. It should be 270k same as R90 on the MTC9000. If it's not that, i'd look at R191 or R193 (both 47k) or R198 (470k).
