Still... Looks like you have plenty of spare screws and bits of plastic in the bottom of the cab as a bonus Smile.

Second playfield
Thanks to some other members I was alerted to a playfield that had some of the missing parts and mechanisms on it that mine needed.

Here's the initial pix, can you spot the playfield?

So here's a better pic Wink

The biggest win here is the IDOL mechanism, for those that don't know what this is it is this:

It is pretty much IMPOSSIBLE to find!

So a deal was struck to buy the spare playfield off the Op, the only big issue was the actual playfield had wear near Indys head. So I struck a deal to take all the parts and leave the actual playfield behind (was loads cheaper, the guy wanted loads for the actual playfield but not a lot for the parts!)

Pix after stripping (you can see the wear here by Indys head):

Stripped!! Should have taken those arm rails though - much nicer than mine!

Freaking awesome!

Please total up the costs. It'll be nice to know the total minus your blood, sweat and tears.

So.

Apart from the other 10 million things I needed to buy I needed artwork to mint the cabinet.

The cabinet is going to get stripped to the wood and all existing art taken off. So this means I need a new artwork set.

So that means I need for a proper restoration, a good quality set of artwork. Now there is a silk screened run of Williams IJ art - but it had ceased production ages ago and all I could find was horrible inkjet stuff! Doh.

Anyhow after 2 months of searching Andy Heighway of Heighway Pinball found a spare set he had and I grabbed it.

Here's the proper silk screened stuff:

w00t!

The stinky inkjet stuff:

So it got me thinking. The plan is to totally sand, prep and mint the inside and outside of the cabinet. The inside will be getting a two tone yellow and black paint job.

But then I started thinking about all the serial stickers around the cabinet that will be lost. So I used a service in the USA that reprints all your serial stickers and other associated pinball stickers out for you. You just provide your original details like US/UK/Export and serial number.

Here's an example:

So I supplied all the details and have a set on order!

w00t!

I've also managed to source a NOS lockdown bar assembly. This is coming in from Australia, I believe that's where the guy that bought all the Williams/Bally pinball stock lives.

Right so I haven't got time to restore the cabinet myself so i've decided to outsource. This ensures it gets done really well and I know this person produces outstanding work. His name is Manny and his website is www.woodtechworkshop.co.uk

Here's a link to some of his work on flickr:

Here's an IJ cabinet that has been restored - i've asked for the exact same finish.

My cabinet has been sent off and is having this done and I should be getting it back the first week or two of September.

Thanks - I am hoping for literally a better than new IJ. I have lots of stuff bought and planned.

I'll try and get a pic of all the parts i've bought for it but it might mean sticking them all over the lounge floor to get a decent shot!

Fingers crossed this is going to be the mintiest IJ ever.

Update!

So work has started on the cabinet restoration yesterday. Here's some sneak preview pix of the head from Manny at WorkTech Workshop.

As you can see the head has been stripped and is being prepped ready for mintyness!

Update!

I dropped the playfield off to get rebuilt by a top pinball dude yesterday. The playfield is to be stripped to the wood and all parts polished and tumbled. I provided all my new and repro parts as well as a new rubber kit and all the parts from the secondary playfield. The wireform rails will be sent off and stripped, blasted and then gold plated for that minty look. All other metal parts small enough will be tumbled for a few weeks to get them looking great.

Here's some of his work
