I bought an Oculuc Quest 2 as an extra family xmas present for everyone to play (mainly for me

).

I've been really surprised by just how good it actually is with it not being hooked up to a pc!

My favourite game so far is definitely Eleven Table Tennis. The physics are incredible and I play almost exactly how I do in real life and there are plenty of people of various skill levels to play online. It really is almost as good as the real thing.

The Star Wars game is very impressive too. You're not going to get any closer to holding a real light sabre than that.

Just downloaded Pavlov Shack which is free as it's in beta. It has 2 shooting ranges in it with I'm guessing at least 50 different weapons that all feel great to use and look absolutely amazing.

Has anyone got any other game or app suggestions apart from the more obvious games like beat sabre?

What's the field of view like?

All the previous VR headsets I've tried feel like you're looking through thick goggles the FoV is so bad, it kinda takes me out of the moment.

I have Eleven Table Tennis but not really enough space to play properly.

Pinball FX 2 is great for those of us who don't have the room or dosh for the real thing. Resident Evil 4 is supposed to be good, but haven't played it myself.

It's around the same as the other good quality headsets I think but I only ever notice it for a couple of seconds at the start but once I'm in a convincing 360° environment it just feels like you're there.

The Walking Dead is ment to be really good too. I'm waiting to see how I feel with games were you have to do a lot of running about as I did feel a bit sick when I tried it on star wars but hoping I'll get used to that if I do a bit each day then I'll buy resident evil or walking dead.
Having said that I'll probably sh*t myself playing those sort of games in vr.

Yeah, I haven't had the nerve to play a zombie game yet. It was bad enough the first time I played In Death: Unchained being charged at by sword wielding baddies.

It's a different ballgame when they're life size!

I'm lucky and don't really suffer from motion sickness, but you should start to get better as you get your VR feet. Also heard taking ginger helps, for some reason.

Beat Sabre is still my game of choice in VR

you can also wireless stream games from Steam over to the Oculus quest now too without any hack or paid for software.

it's a great VR Headset. I did try the Valve index. but hated the noise the tracking sensors made.

the next quest will be outstanding when it finally happens

I got an Oculus Quest 2 for xmas as well, seems t be the present of choice this year.

I found what seems like a very cheap bundle for it here: https://www.fanatical.com/en/bundle/fanatical-quest-vr-bundle

8 games for £13.59. There are a few codes to take an extra 5% off (I used code GGDEALS not affiliated to me, no idea if someone else is getting a kickback from this code) to take it down to £12.91.

Not tried the games yet as still getting used to the Quest 2 and I also bought the Vader Immortal trilogy in the sales which is the first set of games I am playing.

nb: Vader Immortal - only started it, had my first encounter with Vader and holy cr@p....... new pants needed

That's a good deal for 8 games!

The Vader encounter is brilliant. He towers over you and I felt genuinely worried he was about to pick me up by my throat.

I'm guessing there will be a lot of lag though if streaming games from a PC?

Thanks I might try the ginger idea. It does feel like I'm getting slightly better with it each day though.

not that I have noticed, it does benefit from a good strong wifi 6 connection, you can connect via USB C cable to a PC but that spoils the freedom for me.

I was able to play through half life Alyx without any issues, If you have the PC for it, this is the AAA VR game to play!

Yeah, I never noticed any lag playing PCVR over 5ghz wifi. The freedom from cables and external sensors is what makes it so good.

If you do go down the PCVR route, check out Aircar. Not really a game but very atmospheric and it's free. You get to fly the Blade Runner car!

I bought a Quest 2 during Black Friday. Wow, I am seriously impressed for what you get for the money. So far I have tried Vaders Immortal and was impressed with how real it all seems.

I also tried Medal of Honour, but the movement on the joystick rather than being able to transport to move caused me motion sickness

Check out Bigscreen, you can watch movies in a variety of different cinemas, either streamed from your own PC or you can join other people's (and throw tomatos at them too

). There are a few free channels you can watch as well, and its a free app.

Another recommendation that's not been mentioned is Doom/Doom II/Doom 3, Quake 2, Half Life, etc which have all been converted to run natively on the Quest. Use SideQuest to load them up. So good. Myst is also an excellent conversion.

Other games I've spent a good deal of time playing at Pinball FX and Star Wars Pinball.

I tried the converted Quake 2, after my initial dissapointment that multiplayer wasnt catered for, I thought I would give the campaign mode a go, and I very quickly got hit with major motion sickness.
I don't know if any of you guys have been effected by this, I havent really had too many problems with the Quest 2 (though to be fair I have hardly used it, or the PSVR I had before it - proper dust gatherers for me), but motion sickness is quite horrible, and takes me ages to shift it.

I have the same issue with games where you have to move, so I stick with games where you can transport/teleport to a location and don't get sickness
