So I just purchased a driving cab I will convert to MAME (Empty shell at the minute) and was looking at some racing games for MAME. I see a lot are imperfect and dont work. The cabinet has HI / LOW shift only ( No Clutch )

Any ideas of what games are available and good to play ????

Or is there a better emulator that runs racing games ???

I am a mid 80's To Mid 90's mainly.

Thanks in advance,

Dave.

Obs will be having outrun on there !! I mean an arcade without Outrun is like a woman without a ....... You catch my drift.

Could be anything these days :ROFLMAO:

Driving games are harder than joystick games but there are still quite a few that work as far as I remember, I've not finished sorting my driving cabs yet and haven't used PC steering wheel for years to test them, teknoparrot works well for later ones though as it's not emulated

Yeh gonna look at teknoparrot but I think it may be too modern for me (Maybe).

I would be tempted to change from a high/low to an up/down, would open up a lot more possibilities. While still being playable for outrun etc....

Oh and you need Continental circus, its better than outrun 😝

There’s model 2 and model 3 emulator which are must haves in a driving cab. If you go on the arcade punks site there is a driving game image which is a good start too.

ex Ridge Racer Cab so should be up/down sequential style.

I think mame is setup now to replicate this for the high low games, or if not there was an add on you could use, been a while since I messed with driver emulators, or was that a hacked a version of Mame called Racermame?

Theres also a Dreamcast/Naomi emulator so you can do Initial D1,2,3, Crazy Taxi, Jambo Safari etc. called I think Demul, pretty sure they had the card reader emulated in the software as well for Initial D so you could play through the story mode.

Ridge Racer itself, there used to be a separate emulator for it, not sure what its like in Mame now.

Model 2 and Model 3 Emulators for Sega Rally's and Daytonaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, along with Indy 500, Touring Cars etc.

Outrun 2 you can get the PC version and there is an addon to make it more like the arcade version.

Outrun there is the cannonball emulator with loads of interesting options.

Lots of optical none centering wheel games in mame as well, some work ok with 270degree centering wheel, others not brilliant - Buggy boy, Pole Position, Chase HQ, Continental Circus.

And then the standard other drivers - Power Drift, Ourunners, Outrun Turbo, etc.

Yeh thanks all , Lots to look at and lots to consider with steering wheel 270 / 360 gears up down and what knot !!

What is hard is I dont do ' Modern Gaming ' and by modern I mean anything from 1995 realy ! lol. BUT the games after that just kept getting better and look great , So do I go against the grain and build it all in ?? Maybe / Maybe not I suppose I can have a ponder.

Definitely look into the 95-00 era arcade games too, if that's something you haven't explored much your in for a treat, the big benefit of an emu cab is getting to try things you normally wouldn't.

I will do Kev , I have a lot to learn :)

Just looking at the System 2 & 3 stuff , Emulator is great and works well as far as I can tell (Without setting it all up mind) - Thanks Rob_Bob !

Another quick Question , Anyone know if I need a good Graphics card for the emulated stuff ?? I know MAME was mainly CPU rendering wasn't it ?? I have a mame cab without just onboard graphics and seems fine. I have tested a few of the System 2 / 3 games and they seem fine as well (I am RDP'ed into the machine though so a bit laggy).

Only other issue is a lot of the new stuff requires 4 gears , So if i did that I would loose Outrun and them as I would have to change the shifter !

Most of the 4 speed, model 2/3 stuff will work with up down sequential, theres a setting in there, just toggle that on and your good to go
