Doubles up the X & Y so monkeys
Run faster & creep much more delicately. Arcade art shop has them .

And it’s only 5 wires so pretty simple to connect up .

What io board you got ?
Oh so u can just use a normal joystick? If not what specific analogue stick is needed? Can i use atari hall effect for example?

I have a capcom io and taito normal io that came with the viewlix. Pretty sure they both will work if he op got the capcom io running?

A few more quesions, if u guys dont mind? Im not that cued up on jvs standard except fixing them 🤣

1. Does a normal dimm board work or would i need a net dimm, versions etc?

2. Op said naomi 2 wont work but im sure it should? Can someone confirm please?

3. Is there anywhere to get repro banana joysticks at all?

4. Can a trsckball be used instead? I assume its a two axis analogue stick?

5. Ive seen jvs io being sold on ebay for £35. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/31530912...I4tNtGITcu&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Would this work?

Pretty much should have all the parts to get it running except the banana i think. Just been procrastinating since i wasnt sure exacrly how to get it to work. Am also trying to help a fellow collector get a monkey ball cab up and running too so any info would be much appreciated.

Naomi 2 is all games so yes ..
Capcom io is great that’s what I use has the analogue controller socket.

You need an analogue Naomi sega stick. It’s analogue x & y.

Hall effect is digital so I don’t think you can use this ..

I’ve not seen track ball work but it might.;)

A guy on YouTube made deodarant roller ball bottles work , against a ball with a monkey ball toy in the ball so possibly any x&y will work .
As long as it has the 5 wires to connect to the 5 contacts on the sega io.

To do my method
You need a sega analogue stick
Analogue amp from arcade art shop
And a loom that fits the capcom Io analogue connector

Not sure if the open JVS project would let you use a trackball as input and let you convert that to the analogue JVS input the Naomi would be expecting, I think its designed so you can use any controller to link to a JVS input.

I wouldn't attempt a trackball. The game is designed around tilting the stage with an analogue stick.

Frantically rolling a ball might be a fun change on easy levels but it'd be unplayable as soon as you have to hold an angle. One level that comes to mind is when your monkey shoots up in the air and you have to angle a thin tower just right to land him in the goal.

Monkey Ball reminder: you don't control the monkey, you control the world. You are not the monkey, you are God. The monkey is merely a passenger and has no influence on his destiny.

God uses a banana analogue stick.

Yeah i kinda realised that when it was pointed out to me. Got a couple of gundam sticks and bananas to make it now thanks to FrancoB and others that have helped out.

Will a taito io work or does it have to be sega io? I assume you connect analogue to this and then the amp to the io? Also i assume it refines the input??? So without it will justbe digial signals? Also whats the original sega amp model called please?

Again thanks to everyone who has explained. Im sure all this info can help others too.

Dragon minded used to make clones for the amp and has open sourced the design.

Opinion seems to be that the amp is unnecessary as the analogue is user calibrated anyway. I don't know if any expert players would disagree.

Also, the amp's function is different due to the Gundam sticks potentiometer values.

Maybe this information has been updated since. I don't know, it's quite a long thread.

I'm planning to skip the extra board and go bareback when I lose my banana virginity. If this is a mistake I'll worry about it later.

Ah, the fact that gundam's joystick is 1K definitely makes sense as to why the repro boards didn't work for you. I definitely specified that the pots should be linear 5K, but good that you figured it out @XeD.

Also, as originally promised way back when, I am open-sourcing my design files for the repro board. I don't have the energy to keep making the repros and I'm out of them aside from a few that I'd like to keep for myself. The OSH Park shared design for the PCB is here https://oshpark.com/shared_projects/Y6ouPNpT and you can just order it without worrying about gerbers or anything. The KiCad project, BOM and a few datasheets I used when making the schematics and such are here: https://github.com/DragonMinded/839-1187
