Thought evri was trying to charge for redelivery, turns out it was a scam but how did the scammer know?

So I got some small items coming from Japan and got an email saying that evri were delivering today.
Both my wife, the dog and me have been in all morning. The dog goes mad when anyone knocks so I know no one did.
Now I get a text saying I need to schedule a redelivery and evri are saying I need to pay £2.45 for it.

WTAF!

EDIT:The text could be a scam, now looking into it.

Check its not the scam txt ones , There are so many about. Goto there website and use the actual tracking number for full details , You can contact them (A pain in the arse) via live chat and contest it. As far as I know Envri will try to redeliver a few times before charging.

That's what I just noticed, the tracking didn't match but had to go to my computer to confirm.

What bothers me is how did they know I was expecting a package today that didn't get delivered?

They didnt thats the point, They ' Assume ' you are expecting something as 50% of the people will be and probably dont even know who is shipping.

I.E I am waiting for something , I have no clue who the seller is using but if i got the text i would be the same as you were.

All chance , Based on volume.

Evri shouldn't deliver anything from Japan, the only international delivery I've ever had through them was from Amazon US. The normal couriers for parcels from Japan are Royal Mail (SAL/airmail), Parcelforce (EMS), DHL and FedEx.

Yep, scammers just send random texts like this to thousands of phone numbers. Coincidental that you have a package coming but that is something the scamming fuck faces rely on

While that's plausible I have never received a scam evri email before.
Then on the day I get a none delivery from evri (I know they didn't even try but that's how evri is) getting a text the same day seems a little too much of a coincidence. I wonder if someone at evri could be leaking details?

It's something from aliexpress and the website is where I got the evri tracking from.

As other have said its just pure scatter gunning approach hoping to catch someone out.

I had text one a while ago from EVRI (I was expecting something as well but wasnt sure it was coming via EVRI) saying there was something they were trying to deliver but my address details weren't complete and gave a link to click on to fill in my delivery details, noticed that the URL for the link so very suspect so ignored it, also got it a few more times not long after.

Have had ones in the past for banks that I dont have an account with saying suspicious activity, and one time I got a call offering me a free upgrade on my mobile contract which was from a company I dont have a contract with and wasnt even on a contract at that time anyway. Friend had the same call a week or so earlier saying same company who they werent with either and he strung them along for a while and it turned out they were trying to access his old account with the company they said they were from as they were going through a password reset process, asking him for the code etc.

EVRI do TEMU stuff from China and other Asian origins but give loads of updates for dispatched and due to deliver

Also our EVRI usual guy knows us and where he can leave an item if we not in and even if names are our married daughters not same as ours Overall with drop off to send at our local Tesco their performance has improved 200% and reliable in almost all cases now

I still however use UPS for collection at home bigger than 120cms long (pool cues etc) or heavy bulky items over 10kgs and usually get next day even booking economy..( especially if I book to collect Thursdays it’s almost certain you get a Friday delivery on regular town/ city route in England /Wales)

Yep, I've had them too and not waiting for parcels so you know it's scam but as said with the drive to keep people at home with scary viruses and buy everything online like neighbours now do they will catch out many people with these scams because so many now have stuff delivered weekly if not daily

I don't use apps, I don't answer calls unless it's someone I know so don't have much chance of being scammed and I ignore all emails, texts, whatscrap messages unless I know em

Which courier was it other day, dpd maybe telling me to download app to keep track of items being delivered, er don't think so

I get them occasionally. I put a random postcode into the linked website and if it still shows charges I know it’s a scam.

I had a very odd one via FedEx the other week. Email and text with the tracking number provided by the seller in Japan, asking for VAT/admin charges. I’d already paid at checkout so emailed FedEx (ukinvoicequery@fedex.com) with a copy of the eBay invoice as proof.

Emailed around 8.30am and it was delivered that day around midday, too soon I thought for FedEx to have actioned it.

Got an email a few days later in response claiming they had no record of it, so either a sophisticated scam or FedEx trying to rip me off!

I would not put it past them. Fedex are scum of the earth who work with a scum of the earth debt collection agency. From my experience that is my opinion of them. Rant over

Just out of interest, are there any couriers who genuinely charge for redelivery? I thought if they couldn’t deliver it would eventually get returned to the sender (maybe first held at a central hub for a period of time to allow you to travel to collect)?

Not really arcade related but sort of on topic. My dad has passed and I am sorting his estate, contacted Aviva by phone about his pension gave them some details, also cancelled his RAC membership both wanted my email address so they could send confirmations etc. A week later I got scam emails pretending to be from Aviva and the RAC, easily spotted as they were identical. But Yeah WTF, conincidece stretches the bounds of credulity.

Always has been, always will be sadly, absolute scum trying to scam money from people. Imagine trying to exploit someone grieving the loss of a loved one, unbelievable.
