I don't always mean to take things off topic for folks or tell anyone what's good or bad for them as I can't talk on that but I genuinely am interested in changing what and when I eat but struggle with food as I don't like a lot of what I should eat. Nothing about Conspiracy stuff just trying to help yourself with health as getting older

Love currys which can be bonus if I get my act together and make something myself instead of buying ready made meals to bang in Microwave

So I thought lets get back into better habits like simple drink to start with instead of Tea/Coffee, need to make this to start the morning

Started drinking some a while back but soon fall back into old habits

So I bought some more Fresh Ginger Root, Lemons and Runny Honey, cut piece off the Ginger, cut skin off with knife, cut up smaller or grate, boiling water in a pan, heat gently for 10 mins with some slices of lemon in too, then strain it into cup and add some honey

That's much nicer with a bit of honey in, It's like a Lemsip but better as it's not a bag of chemicals in hot water and all natural ingredients, it's quite a refreshing drink as the ginger is a bit like fresh citrusy taste, not what I thought it would be, last time I had a bad cold/flu I was making this but without honey instead of anything like lemsip and also quite a bit Vitamin C, not just tablets proper powder you mix with water, I mix with Orange Juice but even then nothing seems to do a lot other for cold/flu other than riding it out

What annoys me with the good lady friend of mine is she keeps complaining about her Knees for one, Doctors told her she has osteoarthritis in her knees, so she's basically condemned them and she will need knee replacements instead of maybe eating/drinking better which could help, even lady she spoke to other week said she should drink Ginger
I'm no expert and all you can do is read up on things but I search "fresh ginger tea for osteoarthritis"
Ginger and Osteoarthritis
A case in point: Three studies from a systematic literature review found that ginger relieved osteoarthritis (OA) pain better than placebo. Yet researchers who performed a similar review didn’t find enough quality evidence to support that conclusion.
Ginger came out better in a 2020 trial that pitted the commercial pain reliever naproxen against a combination of ginger, black pepper and curcumin (the anti-inflammatory ingredient in turmeric). Black pepper enhances the absorption of curcumin, and the researchers thought adding ginger might help even more. They were right. The herbal combo was just as effective as naproxen in reducing inflammation and pain in knee OA when taken twice a day for four weeks.
Ginger and Rheumatoid Arthritis
Studies of ginger and rheumatoid arthritis (RA) are few and far between — and not always top quality. Worth noting:
  • In a 12-week randomized controlled trial, 70 participants who had RA received a daily dose of 1,200 mg ginger or placebo. Results showed that the ginger group had a significant increase in the expression of FOXP3 genes, which help regulate the immune system, and a considerable decrease in pro-inflammatory genes.
  • A study comparing a daily dose of 1,500 mg ginger to placebo in 66 patients with active RA reported that the ginger group had a significant reduction in C-reactive protein (CRP, a marker of inflammation) and in interleukin (IL)-1, an inflammatory protein targeted by arthritis drugs like anakinra (Kineret) and canakinumab (Ilaris).
Choose Capsules

Best thing is to try things for yourself and see if it helps, probably many other things that would help her too or like above adding other things to the drink or in food

I have heard Kraken Coffee rum is very good for you, so i try and consume as much as possible

On a more serious note, i would stay away from adding any sort of powder to a drink, i dont trust protein drinks, or flavoured powered shite, put natural ingredients into water, mint tea, cucumber water(i think)...

As for food, now we as a family eat a LOT of chicken each week and eggs, we air fry our chicken(probably about 40-50 breasts between us all each week) and eat it with rice and broccoli, the eggs are always poached and are ate with avocados and sour dough bread

it is rare we eat anything frozen other than chips and we stay away from anything ready made, not because we are health freaks, mainly because they taste disgusting

just take healthy plain foods and add some tastes to them, i quite often eat a chicken kebab for my lunch, a chicken breast with seasoning and peppers in it, the unhealthiest part of it is the pitta bread, but i don't eat any other bread really

my wife has lost about 4 stone eating the above while going swimming twice a week, after eating frozen shite and snacks for years, it also actually helped she got diabetes as it gave her a proper scare, she got the type where you can no longer have it, as she doesn't have it anymore

we also eat a lot of potatos and cheese, basically natural foods and we avoid anything processed as much as possible

once you start eating a decent healthy diet, you will find ready meals and take aways to be absolutely foul, or we have at least, the problem is with this diet, is that it isnt cheap, and a lot of people arent in the position to eat healthy, which is fucking criminal by the government to allow that to happen

we also go through a lot of fruit, carrots and strangely spring onions

Veggie here. We cook most of our stuff from scratch and try and avoid sweeteners as much as we can. We make our own veggie chicken out of whizzed up chick peas, gluten and flavourings. It gets surprisingly good reviews from visitors and can be anything g from stir fry pieces to a big Xmas ‘turkey’ complete with stuffing. It’s a bit often a faff but we all pitch in to make a batch and it usually sees us good for a month or so.

For hydration I find a pint of cold water with half a lemon or lime squeezed into it really refreshes and is my go to drink.

i was veggie for about 6 months, and the only thing i missed was chicken, its funny how everyone thinks all you do is eat bits of leaf, i found that hilarious

A old Thai fella told me about peeling ginger with a spoon years ago, it works a treat!

He also taught me a trick for finely dicing onions that’s saved me countless hours over the years.

I've been a veggie for many years, and it's still a learning process.

I do eat dairy, but no eggs nor fish. I don't use vegetable or sunflower oils much, mainly Olive Oil, sesame and Peanut oils now. I find the Sainsburys Olive Oil in the 1L green can is by far the best, expensive compared to vegetable oils though.

I don't drink fizzy pop much, maybe a bottle of Ginger beer now and again. Theres a brand in a glass bottle made with sugar I like, I'm not a fan of putting all those sweeteners and artificial additives in my body.

I cracked a rib a couple of years ago whilst tensing my abs when lifting a heavy weight, basically lifting a Sega driver by myself up a small curb into the garage. Heard it crack, and the next day I knew what that crack was due to the pain when I coughed etc.

I've also started exercising more due to realising that I'd lost a lot of strength, endurance and stamina over the years. When recently trying to carry something heavy up multiple flights of stairs with my mate, I was at the bottom walking up and my mate was at the top walking backwards, my legs had nowhere near as much omph in them as I used to have which was a bit of a shock.

It's now blindly obvious that I needed more protein and calcium in my diet, being a veggie, it's easy to have a diet that lacks certain things. Alongside eating a lot of various veggies and foods with a lot of carbs, I'm drinking a lot more full fat milk and have started using protein power from Protein Works. It's low in sugar and the extreme versions have additional vitamins and minerals. I also take supplements and vitamins, Ashwaganda, Tongkat Ali, Vitamin D3 (10000IU) + Magnesium + B12, Omega 3 Algae. Effects are building/maintaining bone density, adding muscle and raising immunity strength, they have certainly helped me maintain good health.

I drink a lot more fresh juice, not the bottled stuff, home made stuff. I've got a smoothie maker and a masticating juicer. Carrot, apple and ginger is an amazing juice. Ripe bananas and blueberry smoothie is also another of my favourites. Berries full of antoxidants are very good for you, but with juices you need to watch how much you drink due to the sugar content. It's not as bad as processed sugar, but the body absorbs the sugar in the juice a lot quicker than it does when you eat the fruit whole where the sugar release is a lot slower.

Obviously my diet is not for everyone, but with just 6 months I feel much better by just going on the Versaclimber 3-5 days a week, using light weighs, taking stairs rather than lifts and the slight diet change by adding Protein Powder to my vegetarian diet.

I do cook my own meals from scratch using fresh ingredients, I usually make big batches for a few days worth, but I've laxed on making as much the past month. I need to up my game as they say.

An Indian dish called Kitchiri is very good for the body, it's considered a complete protein (grain and pulse) and also has detoxifying effects. Various spices and herbs are great for digestion and health, adding a bit of asafoetida powder to dishes is great for digestion.

I agree, it is amusing what people say when they learn you are a vegetarian, but the reality is that is makes you try more foods that you would have never even thought of trying. I would have thought someone was mad if they had told me my diet when I was older would consist of cauliflower, sprouts, cabbage, peas, carrots, sweet potato, spinach, kale etc.

I also started paying more attention to what I eat and drink, especially after reading that some ultra-processed foods can cause serious long-term issues. I found on a law firm’s website some information about the possible side effects of processed food - honestly, it doesn’t sound great. It really made me think, especially since I used to eat microwave meals pretty often. Now I’m trying to cook more, even if it’s a bit harder.

I’ve been trying natural foods as much as I can lately—things like raw nuts, oats, seasonal fruits, and veg from local shops. I also mix chia seeds into smoothies or overnight oats for some extra fiber and protein. Found a bunch of simple snack ideas and meal hacks that fit with that kind of eating, so it’s been easier to stick with it even on busy days.

Ultra processed foods are something I've concentrated on ditching in recent years and now only eat whole foods. I quit drinking alcohol over a year ago, I quit drinking milk and quit most dairy, I quit red meat only eat chicken/turkey/fish and the last 12 months I've felt absolutely incredible. At 52 I feel more like 32 and my mountain bike has become my best buddy and since changing my diet I have a huge amount of energy, weigh 11 stone and I'm super fit.

Crisps, biscuits, cakes, fast food etc are about as bad as it gets, the chemicals in that stuff is insane. Even Mcdonalds chips have in the region of 15 ingredients, some used in make up!!!

Artificial sweeteners are really bad for our health. Bods, if your good lady takes that stuff get her off it. My Mum used to suffer with swollen joints, knees, ankles etc and the Doctor had no idea. I was doing a resto a few years back, listening to Heart 80's on the radio and there was a short clip about how artificial sweeteners were bad for us and they stated they can cause joint pain etc. I did a quick Google and it brought up a load of side effects and swollen joints was one of them.
Anyhow, I told her what I'd heard, she quit the sweeteners and within 5 days her joints were back to normal and have stayed that way. This was 5 years ago and she suffered with this for a few years,

I can honestly say that the changes I have made in recent years are without question the most important thing I've done for myself in my life and I do not miss any of it.

It's pretty scary when you start studying food and the human body and how certain foods have been proven to cause cancer. For example, dairy can cause prostate cancer, processed meats cause bowel cancer etc the list is endless but it's easy to see what so many of us are contracting cancer, diabetes etc

Look after yourselves you boys/girls and try and make the right choices, your body & mind will thank you for it.

I forgot to say - Beetroot Juice and Tomato juice are something I've got into, they take a bit of getting used to but once you get used to it there's no going back!

Pure lemon juice also (PLJ) and obviously tank loads of water!!
Hundreds of Apples, Kiwi Fruit, Avocado, Blueberries, Porridge, Bananas - they all rule!!
Sourdough bread also as mentioned above, it's non UPF so get stuck in! (Tesco do one made by 'Jasons' it's great stuff!)

while i dont eat anything processed at all, you sometimes have to think, do you want to live to 90 and not remember anyone or anything or go out in a blaze of glory at around 65

i know which one i am aiming for, i have seen too many people just degenerate to the point of not knowing WTF is going on that those around them are the most hurt, not for me

The artificial sweetners blew my mind when I found out that a 20 year study ending in the mid nineties proved that they messed up your digestive system. So much so that a mcdonalds with a diet coke was a one way trip to obesity for most people, crazy but true. So much bs like semi skimmed milk is better for you than full fat, margarine healthier than butter, seed oils better than animal fats, all rubbish, profit driven misinformation, rant rant rant lol. Olive oil, palm oil is good but they've known that seed oils are really bad for you since the 1930's, inflammatory and in truth probably the biggest cause of heart problems and it's in about everything packaged nowadays. I know a few people that have gone back to cooking with lard and butter and swear by it. I think even Parkinsons disease/autism and dementia have now been linked to particular unnatural foodstuffs and a growing percentage of people are becoming susceptible to these.
