Hi all,
Well, this has been a long time coming hasn't it! Some of you will remember that about 2 years ago I was fortunate enough to be browsing Ebay on my lunch hour just as a Sega Rally Twin was listed for £50 BIN. I looked at the auction just long enough to do a double-take, press 'dial' on my phone to Martin the Deliveryman and ask "Can you collect this?!" (The answer was of course 'Yes!'), then I hit the button and the cab was mine
Now for a lot of boring reasons the twin has been sat in storage for all this time; waiting for an appropriate moment for me to have a look. I get distracted. We all do and well, it kind of got forgotten in amongst other cab purchases, (I went a bit mad to the point I couldn't reach or play on any of my machines..) and basically the time just never seemed right. All that changed about 3 weeks ago when I sold my Planet Harriers to a good friend on the forum to make space for my Star Wars cockpit, (we all know how that ended up in that I can't now actually fit it through my front door
) So I suddenly had this huge space and nothing to put in it...
This also seemed like a really good opportunity to see if a Sega Rally Twin would fit in a Ford Ka
The answer is..........half of it certainly will
So, after 2 years, a full dismantle, clean, polish and a damn good hoover, I give you the £50 Sega Rally Twin.....well, half of it
#1 Really nice vibrant side art on both sides; I had to do a small repair to the other side where about 3 inches of the art had peeled away but basically this is intact and in nice condition!
#2 The base is also very nice - no peeling, chips, rust or dings to speak of; just some minor scratching to the decals. The seat adjuster is there and works fine.
3# The dash is in lovely condition and amazingly there is only a tiny 2mm fag burn on the top edge, (I'd have to point it out..), the rest is really nice. Minor wear on the shifter stick but the arts are intact and super nice. I picked up a NoS shifter cover in anticipation of needing one but this one is absolutely fine with no burns or cracks, plus the silver paint is intact too. The worse part of the cab is the foot matting, which has no rips or wear to speak of but has been used to put fags out on so is stained brown - urgh.
4# Pedal area...just nice clean shiny pedals here...they work...erm....they're pedals
There is a bit of wear up front as you can see but that's to be expected. I could have the mounting plate re-powder coated if I wanted I guess.
5# No nasty surprises on top or down the back; the covers are like new...
6# The rear seat art is 95% intact too! This always gets ripped off.....
#7 The PCB stack is fine; just a little dusty; all the PCB's are there and there are no signs of hackery apart from somebody has put an extra large fan at the very rear to improve air flow; I'm all for that so it's staying
8# Critically, it works!!!!! YAY!!! Sound and graphics are all 100%!
9# The steering wheel is an easy 9/10, with no chunks missing or marks. The force feedback works beautifully too...
10# The cab even came with a full set of bolt covers for the sides! These always get robbed
What am I doing with the other side?
I have no idea
