Two more RAM replacement PCBs are now available:
  • Asteroids / Asteroids Deluxe 2114 CPU RAM replacement PCBs
  • Lunar Lander 2111 CPU RAM replacement PCBs

One version of these small PCBs replaces the two 2114 RAMs used by the CPU on Asteroids & Asteroids Deluxe with a single 6116 RAM and another version replaces the two 2111 RAMs used by the CPU on Lunar Lander with a single 6116 RAM.

Here's the v1.0 prototype installed on my own Asteroids PCB. I've since moved the 6116 higher to accommodate use alongside a Braze multikit in response to feedback

I had a small batch of 12 of the Asty / Asty Deluxe PCBs in stock and sold them at £3 each + postage via PM. These are unpopulated PCBs. If there's more demand I'll order a much bigger batch.

I don't have any of the Lunar Lander PCBs (other than a single proto board). If I get a number of requests for these via PM then I'll also order a batch in.

These boards complement the 6116 vec RAM replacement PCBs that @PhillMurr makes and essentially removes the last 2114s on the boards. http://www.ukvac.com/forum/asteroids-vector-ram-replacement-interest-check_topic356021_page1.html

2111s for Lunar Lander are getting pretty tricky to source so I'm hoping most Lunar Lander owners will want one just in case.

These will work even if you have the Braze multigame kit installed but you may need to add another CPU socket to increase the clearance between the two mods.

GUIDE:

You will need some turn-pin male headers, a 24 pin socket, a 6116 and two narrow 18 pin sockets (missing from next picture). I snapped the turn-pin headers into four rows of 9 from a single row of 40.

1) Gather mod parts

2) Solder four rows of turn-pin male headers (9 pins in a row) to the bottom of the mod PCB.

These will eventually slot into the sockets that replace the 2114s on the Asteroids PCB.

3) Solder the 24 pin socket to the top of the mod PCB. Be sure to get the correct orientation (notch to the right).

4) Insert 6116 into socket

5) Desolder the 2114 RAMs from the Asteroids PCB and replace with sockets

(see E2 and D2 in the photo)

6) Insert mod and enjoy

There are now only 3 Asty mods left from the first batch.
I'll be ordering another batch imminently but it may take a while to arrive.

If I get a few more requests for LL boards then I'll put in an order for those too.

The next batch of PCBs should include support for slim 6116 or wide 6116. Just going through the motions of adding it to the design now

Definitely. I'll go for a couple each of the Asteroids/AstDeluxe 6116 boards! I have plenty of 2114s to keep me going, but LOTS of 6116s.

Hey guys, I have buckets of 2114 Asty/AstyDlx adapter PCBs in stock, just DM me. I don't have any 2111 PCBs though.

Alternatively you can print your own via:

Or for 2111 as I've not put it on PCBWay yet:
