Hi all,
Not been on here for a while, but logged back in after purchasing a cab earlier this week. I'm an engineer (fruit machines, pool tables, jukeboxes etc.) by day, so have a garage full of slot machines - treated myself to a cab off ebay that was sold as not working, not had one for years so fancied a change from fruits and want to get back into arcade gaming - I paid £178 for it, by the time the auction ended, which I thought was a fair price. Looking at the pics on the auction, it looked like the board was at fault (Had a street fighter II CE boot in it). Got it, put a different board in it and it fired up. None of the buttons were working and there were a couple of loose wires inside. One of them was from the kick harness to a button and the other was the ground cable - used the multi meter to trace and check continuity for the wires and soldered them back in, now everything is working. There was no light fitting behind the marquee at the top, so fitted a spare strip of LED behind it and tapped into the 5v for power.
I've ordered some 1P and 2P buttons to replace the plain ones that are there now and also ordered 2 speakers. There is only 1 speaker fitted, but 2 grills so will remove the existing one and I'm fitting 2 x 4 ohm speakers in sequence - I know it won't be stereo but at least will be a more level sound.
Next jobs to do:
- Find some silver trim to fit along the sides, one side has it but other has been ripped off it, so will remove that and fit some - I think it comes in a roll of tape.
- Fit a test button.
- Fit 2 joysticks, they work okay but a bit clunky - the buttons seem fine so will leave them for now - any links where I can buy 2 decent ones are welcome.
- Gain access to coin mech door, will either drill the lock out (no key for it) or try and get a box spanner through the gap to undo it. Clean coin mech as intermittent with acceptance, or see if I can put a newer mech in it. I've saved the '20p play' sticker that was on it - I'll sand and respray the mech and cashbox doors black, then refit the sticker back onto it once done.
- Fit a better glass panel in front of the monitor.
- Find perspex for marquee - I like the one that's in it, its battered and the image is printed onto the glass, but has the original feel. I'd like a clear one to change out different designs now and again - any suggestions where to buy these are welcome.
- The biggie will be getting the recapping done - I can solder and am ok with electrics, but would rather someone come out to do this or physically help me get it out.
Once I've done everything, I'll get it in the house before the winter.
Anyway, here are some pics of it so far - I'm enjoying this so far, it's nice to work on something different.
I enjoy 90's stuff (Street Fighter 2, Pang, Knights Of The Round, Seibu Soccer etc.)
Cheers all!
