WHAT I PROPOSE
I had mentioned before about the possibility of doing CAP kits for various monitors, power supplies and Audio boards, etc...
Some of the kits I've bought in the past are literally just that, a pack of capacitors, no instructions or details on various board versions, or differences between maybe the U.S. and European boards. Also you find cheap non-branded caps in there, and yet, seem to pay a premium for.
I had reached out to Mike and Peter at Arcade Parts and Repair to see if they would allow me to take their kits and resell over here as they don't like shipping to Europe due to the taxation laws for each country, which is a real pain in the ass, but so far haven't heard anything back from them. Myself living in Northern Ireland puts me in a unique position as we are still part of the European market and the U.K. I'm registered with both an EORI and XI EORI HMRC numbers for import and export of goods and currently looking at those annoying taxation laws.
So I'm putting it out there, that I'd like to start the New Year off by looking at what people this side of the pond would like, which are the more popular chassis here in the U.K. and Europe as it may be different here compared to the likes of the U.S. or Australian markets.
I'd also like to get my hands on any number of chassis in order to take them apart and create proper instructions complete with actual photographs and, where possible, show the differences between versions.
The caps I'd have in separate baggies for each of the various parks of the boards where applicable, again to help simplify the installation process. Will be using Nichicon caps where possible or other known high quality manufacturers where Nichicon are not available. Over time and as technology and materials have advanced, the sizing and shapes of capacitors have changed. No longer will the caps fit properly into the boards as they are way too small, having to bend the legs to try and get them to fit. At some point, I'd like to rebrand these with Nichicon inside, and reset the sizes, again, in order to ease the installation and look of the board.
So WHAT DO I NEED?
I'd also like, at some point, to start providing repair kits as well with parts that mainly get destroyed, cap kit, resistors, I.C.s etc...
As well as here, I'll be posting this on various Facebook forums as well and try to get a much feedback as possible and keep everyone informed over time.
Thanks again to the great community and support we have here in the U.K., Ireland and of course the rest of Europe.
Phil

So WHAT DO I NEED?
- I'm looking help from the community in getting as many of the monitor chassis and types as possible. Wanting to break these down, get photographs, eventually getting voltage levels at various locations on the board when in full red, blue and green input signals.
- Those that do recapping already or monitor repairs to give pointers, help and advice when they are repairing boards, and what to look out for on a particular make and/or model. This will form part of the instructions, either in general or for a specific board.
- Anyone, again, who regularly repairs boards, do you have a list of caps for boards already, and would you be interested in sharing.
- A list of the more to least popular monitors across Europe. I know this is a bit of a long shot as many machines and boards have circled the globe, but might as well try and cover the more popular or those that need them the most first.
- Anything else you might find useful 🤔
