While tidying up recently, I rediscovered my stash of Spectrum games - or, at least, the ones I have left (NB: I still have those sports games for sale if anyone wants them). While I don't actually have a working Speccy at the mo, I thought it would be nice if I arranged them as part of the decor in my home office. Trouble is, with tapes being such a long obsolete technology, there don't seem to be that many decent-looking solutions out there that don't cost a fortune.

Time for some ghetto cabinetry.

Here's the recipe:

1) Get some cheap bits of melamine-coated MDF

2) Measure where you want to cut, secure lines with tape and cut fine-side down (this minimises cracks and chips in the melamine)

3) Cut some extra bits for the inevitable mistakes!

4) Mark again for dowel pins, drill pilot holes and then full-size holes

5) Run out of dowel pins, order some more and wait for them to come

6) Glue dowels, secure back panel with panel pins

7) Disguise ill-fitting edges with soft furniture wax

8) Don't look too closely at it

It's not perfect but it'll do for now.
