Silly question but how do you guys clean the steering wheels on driving cabs?
I have picked up a sega driver and no matter how much I clean the wheel it stays sticky.
I have tried foam cleaner, alchohol and white spirit but still it is sticky.

It's on a crazy taxi cab.

Cheers

Coke? It's full of sugar so likely to make it even more sticky!

Maybe try sealing it with a polish like Mr Sheen applied liberally with plenty of elbow grease?

I use a lot of car cleaning products for other jobs, mainly because I have a lot anyway.

Autoglym Intensive Tar Remover states -

Dissolves tar on paintwork and plastics instantly. Suitable for use on rubber, synthetic carpets & upholstery to remove oil-based stains. Removes tar, oil, grease, silicone, wax, gum, tree sap, fuel stains and adhesive residues.

(Other brands are available!)

Pole position steering wheels suffer with this. Got mine really smooth. I used label remover, and then some pledge. Foam cleaner is good for cleaning, and breaking down dirt, but wont remove stickiness.

I think it's actually just the age of it and the chemicals in the rubber slowly giving up, seen it on PC mice, car trims etc as well.

As above. I bet due to the age it's the rubber breaking down, so will always be sticky

You could always fit a tasteful cover. Something like this:

I got an old exercise bike where the grips were really sticky. I tried loads of stuff, including most of the above. Even when it seemed to work initially it was sticky within a week, so I agree it's just the natural breakdown of the material. I ended up just using grip tape as used on drop-handle racer bikes.

To bump this up…
I got a used amp with rubber buttons
They were sticky like a kids purposely sticky gel rubber toy.
The more I cleaned them the worse it got
Fibres from cloth stuck to them.

After reading up about window cleaner
I tried it and they got more sticky

Then read someone said keep changing part of cloth and rub hard.
I didn’t expect the results? But they are no longer sticky and normal again.

I’m sure I have a sticky wheel
Somewhere to try this…
It was driving me nuts
