Hi Guys.

Just after some general non-specific advice at this time. As this is a project for next year.

I live in a detached house built 13 years ago with an integral garage. One side is external, the other is shared with the living room and the rear with the stairs. Above is the bathroom. It has a standard up and over door. The internal walls are the bare blocks used when built.

I would like to insulate this better to maintain a more healthy temperature.

So apart from fitting a sectional insulated door what are my options with rhe floor, walls, ceiling?

The floor is bare concrete and the gas combi.boiler is in the rear corner.

Thanks in advance.

Personally I would strap and line any external walls or fit insulating sheets. Internal walls and ceiling should be OK. The floor can be made into a floating floor with insulation in the gap. Normally there is insulation under concrete floors but not sure if this is done for garages too.

The biggest issue is the up n over door as this will allow drafts and cold to pass though. If you are not going to use it then maybe just put a stud wall across? Bit more serious, convert it to a room and get a window put in? Planning would be needed though for that.

I have a modern style detached double length garage so my carpenter mate walled off half of it so im left with a arcade room measuring 9ft wide 19ft long..single brick with damp proofing and electric garage door...bit chilly so i did the following..laid good hard wearing carpet down plus a garage weather stop to block the small gap under the garage door..then i bought loads of the gold foil therma wrap which is basically bubble wrap with a heat reflective foil covering on both sides i stapled this to the garage rafters approx 8 feet high and covered the garage door and wooden internal door in this foil..important part is to insure a air gap.between the rafters and the top of the garage ceiling..20 litre dehumidifier runs keeping humidity at around 55-60 and small 2kw blow heater warms the garage from 8c to 18c in an hour..turn off stays warm for around 4 hours till its down to 10-12 c again...dehumidifier is on 24 7 but turns off once 55 is reached and back on again when it increases...plus the dehumidifier keeps the room temp 3 to 5c warmer than outside and only £18 a month to run..well worth it as i got 5 cabs out there..
