I figure someone here will be very knowledgable on this sort of thing!
I am getting a new tv, I have an existing surround sound system that currently is connected as so -
Apple TV to surround sound amplifier via HDMI, hdmi from surround sound to tv.
I don't have any other devices attached to the tv as everything is watched via the Apple TV. The amplifier is an Onkyo HT-R494, which although a few years old now serves me well and has Atmos so its not a bit of kit I want to replace.
So, when the new tv turns up am I better off connecting it as I currently am, so the signal from the Apple TV goes to the amp and then to the tv, or should I connect the Apple TV directly to the tv and then send audio from the tv to the amp via an optical lead? would the optical lead be able to send all the different audio formats such as atmos etc?
