Recently acquired a donkey kong tkg3-06 original 4 board set to test and repair if faulty from a member, he said it was purchased as untested so here it is on my bench .1000015632.jpg
First inspection was that all the plastic standoffs were broken and each pcb was sandwiched with bubble wrap.seperated all four pcbs which was the sound pcb(top) ,cpu pcb, video pcb and clk pcb(bottom).1000015634.jpg1000015633.jpg1000015636.jpg1000015637.jpg
As you can see this board set had better days, some time in it's life water had got into the board set causing quite alot of corrosion on all pcbs except the sound pcb was ok.There were 4 x eproms missing also noticed that the sound digital ribbon cable was also missing on the sound pcb. This looks as though it was used for spare parts .I contacted the member and explained this board set needs a restoration and alot of repair needed, he asked me what to do so I told him I'll take on the challenge and try to get it fixed,he said that's fine and take your time.
As the sound pcb looked ok,I started with the cpu pcb and replaced all the rusted chips x20 with new ,then to the video pcb with x25 rusted chips replaced and lastly the clk pcb with x15 chips replaced. All pcbs except the sound pcb had all the sockets replaced with new dual wipe.As this board set does not have an edge connector I had to build a harness to test it,once it was made I plugged in to the boards connectors and powered on....1000015793.jpg
Oh dear o_O no sound, no graphics only a weird sync issue. I decided to scope the main z80a cpu (cpu pcb),there was no activity on the data and address buses ,reset ok but when I checked the clock pin it was low (not good) so the game won't boot without a clock.
To be continued....

Replaced 60 IC's and booted to that o_O bet you was gutted !! Hopefully just a simple trace repair or something similar now to get that missing clock and then everything works great 🤞🤞

Just out of interest, do you take on DK repairs for berks like myself?

I'm aware not many do take on DK repairs and I'm thinking of buying another Donkey Kong cabinet and want to know who takes them on before I commit. If guys over here are not taking them on, I won't bother.

Thanks(y)
