So i have my EV, but i now need a charger installed at my house, im looking at getting either the Easee or the evec charger

the big issues i see are the evec is a lot cheaper, but the connection can be shit(this could just be disgruntled buyers who havent had it installed correctly), and the easee seems a lot better and offers a locking mechanism but is £200 more expensive

i think i will need a spare charging cable regardless, but anyone...help!

Interestingly Octopus wrote to me today to say they are removing the feature to charge at 7p all day. They don’t put it exactly like that but you can only set ‘car charged by’ times between 4 and 11 am. If you want a quick charge manually it is at the regular tariff rate.

I don’t need to charge in the afternoons too often but it’ll cost 4x as much now when I do.

nice of them, all the EV stuff they promised is basically being reversed once they have enough people snagged

although this doesnt answer or address my question at all....LOL

I didn't want a tethered as I think a charging cable on the wall looks fugly.

I'd never let an Octopus installer near my house again.

If your going for Octopus as your supplier, either the charger or the car needs to be compatible with their app, not both so you're ok as long as one works.

If I was buying a charger tomorrow I'd buy one that was dumb as fuck and rely on the car software and octopus app instead.

I had a pod point charger installed with my first EV 7 years a go now. It's been solid I went for tethered, as fishing about in the boot for the cable when it's raining or freezing cold isn't fun. We have untethered at work, and it's just a pain reeling it back up when done.
It's quite a dumb box really, you can connect it to Wi-Fi and use their app to see how much the charging is costing you, but that's about it.

Sorry I dont have any info on the ones you listed.

Jeez, these things are expensive - what's in them?

With the 'granny charger', there's very little in the brick that goes to the 13A mains socket (I use the same outlet I attach a power washer to).

I got a charger installed through Toyota on a deal when I bought my EV. It's untethered but I bought another charging cable that I leaved plugged in (and padlocked to an outdoor bracket) so I don't need to get the cable out every day.

The installation was done by Hive / British Gas and took forever. The customer service was horrendous and at one point I was actually berated on the phone for having the audacity to be chasing up the installation after waiting 4 months! I couldn't help but laugh when she said: -

"No, we are not busy. It's just there are a lot of people ahead of you in the queue" !!!
