Interesting article for the BBC.

Are we actually better off now we have this kind of content on tap?

I don't think so - used to love poring over these mags for months before getting a game.

Now we know everything almost instantly

I still love a magazine, I have the full runs of all those mags pictured in their article, they are great to go back to. I was reading the latest issue of Retro Gamer on the train this morning, I subscribe so it arrived in the post yesterday, I find it quite exciting, saving it and opening it up for the train.

Yeah, something has been lost in the transition to digital. I'm not sure exactly what, mind.

Maybe it is the same thing with comics - I'd never enjoy a digital comic as much as the real thing because you instinctively interact with it in a different way. Your eye takes in the whole page layout even when it focuses on a single panel.

And with both comics and magazines there is the sense of ownership. You own that magazine, but even if you subscribe to a website it will never be 'yours'.

Having said all that, there is good journalism to be found online in amongst all the trash, and having almost everything at your fingertips is pretty incredible when you think about it.

I don't want magazines to be replaced entirely though, and I have just started subscribing to Retro Gamer which I've been meaning to for a while.
