Hi,
As instructed here's an introduction. I'm Dave I've been into retro for years, going in deep maybe 4 or 5 years ago when I moved from a flat to a house and was suddenly able to have room for stuff (no room any more!)
I've loved arcade machines since I was a little kid. I saw them most often down in St Annes next to Blackpool where we would go on family holidays in the 80s. There were some in the hotel and in the arcade on the pier.
When I got into micros (never consoles) i slid away from them and went less often, and probably stopped around '90. I do remember playing Knights of the Round though a bit later in an arcade somewhere, but I can't remember why I was there. I've never been any good at them but that's not stopped me.
In the late 90s I found out about MGE and then MAME and I've dipped in and out since then. Dipping in a bit more when I got a MiSTer a few years back.
I've heard about this place through a Alex from Arcade Archive, because he opened up in the same place as my friend Neil. And also from a couple of podcasts, the 10 Pence Arcade and the Ted Dabney Experience. Both fantastic podcasts! I actually do a podcast myself "This Week in Retro" with Neil from RMC and Chris.
I've always loved the idea of having an arcade cab in the house. At the moment I have 2 sort of stations. I have a MiSTer with a Mayflash 500 and I've swapped it to Sanwa parts, and a 21" trinitron TV. And also a MAME station with a GRS Star Wars yoke, it's just got a 21" flat screen but I don't think XY games look good on a CRT.
Maybe one day when I finish this house off I'll convert the rest of the garage and have room for a couple of Goliaths... they look like proper arcade cabs to me, a horizontal and a vertical. Maybe. One day!
In the mean time though following what Alex does (oh and also Azrael has starrted doing videos and I'm enjoying those) as well as the two podcasts I mentioned I'm finding myself gravitating towards arcades again.. so I signed up here.
