Following the success of the last pcb, I thought I have time to sort out a similar pcb, namely track and field before I hit the sack. This was sold as exhibiting random sound noises.

When plugged in everything was fine except that the sound was all over the place. Attract music during the races, stuck sounds, missing voices and sometimes sound loops.

After the Hyper Sports sound fix I did earlier on, I went straight to the ram. This was easy to find. Two sets of 2114s at 3D and 2D on top board. Top board is the area where the Audio circuitry is located.

Again some weird signals on I/O pins.

Firstly I removed 2114 at 2D and put a new one in. This helped cleared up a lot of the sounds but some effects were still corrupted. I replaced 3D and this restored all sounds.

A note is that 2114 Ram at 2D seems to control half the sound effects and vocals like on the running stage and while on the hurdles 3D seems to take over. Javelin sound effects, just after you throw the javelin and when the javelin lands is controlled by 3D.

Easy fix.

As I had some time, I thought I change the battery which was held in place with cello tape and blue tack. (seriously?)

New battery and holder installed.

Also as I had to remove the top board from the bottom board, I found that this soldered connector was a hindrance.

So I replaced it.

Seeing that no other faults was found I thought I end the day here
