My second repair is an IGS PGM board I bought from a user across the road.
When I fired it up without a cart I got to the system menu. Putting a game in led to a green screen every time:
The battery was badly corroded and damaging the board:
Yuck.
After removing it I could see the damage done...
I cleaned it up and fitted a new battery.
There's a badly broken trace running from JP1 to a via near the 3P+4P connector. I left that for the time being and instead went to the other visual fault which was with the daughterboard:
One pin missing and another next to it a bit wobbly.
Thanks to my Hakko I was able to make short work of removing the connector:
The part is a 62pin edge connector with IGS branding on it. I initially thought I would have a tough time replacing it but I managed to find a matching part from Taiwan via eBay.
On the left is the replacement and on the right is the original (you might be able to faintly see the IGS logo):
For anyone interested, here's the eBay link.
Much better.
I decided to try booting a game with this fix but no change - still green screen.
I took a break and watched a video on YouTube (link) that explains how the board will not boot if the trace that runs under the battery is broken. This is the same trace that looked damaged from before, so I ran in a wire:
Which led to:
Board fixed! I've played a few games and everything is working as it should.
Naughty pile: one corroded 3V80H battery and one knackered 62pin connector.
