Irrational fear my cab is going to go bang, every time I turn it on !

Normal. I feel the same way for my old TVs and almost every PCB I own.
My Ampro projector did actually smoke up a tantalum when I first tried that. Rather smelly.

I used to always fear cabs and monitors going bang but never a consumer crt telly. Guess that's down to my Naomi monitor and a Wells Gardner going bang a while back.
Why does the Naomi Universal have to boom into life when turned on!? 😆 Maybe the Sanwa monitor?
I'm much less nervous a couple of years on knowing I can attempt to fix them! And I am loving the Nanao monitor in the Blast City that gently fizzles to life 😍 also the Polo in my Area 51 I've been messing about with recently, although knowing it only cost a tenner before fixing helps!
Probably all blow up or catch fire now I've said that 🤣🤣🤣

Fixing stuff isn't too bad, it's finding parts that's the nightmare with ancient stuff.
Yeah that is a problem and cost of parts if you do sometimes, I couldn't believe it when I tried to get Lopt for Sega Monitor a few years back now and no one sells them, when I got my Op Wolf cab 2001 I went Wiltsgrove in Birmingham for TV spares anyway and they had them for everything, got one for the Hantarex no problem, if only we'd all bought a few spare ones
Luckily with the Sega monitor in Turbo Outrun I saved another chassis when tube scan coins were damaged in previous Turbo Outrun, guess from being powered up damp, so fixed that, only trouble is tube ain't great, now if only I'd saved the other tube as well, took the flippin scan coils off and still have those
I have a Pole Position cab with original hardware, so yes it is normal 😅
I'm not too worried about them going bang - The worst thing that sometimes happens is that the electrics going to the games room trips (Inrush current on a 16amp MCB) There was that one time though then the CRT in my T2 decided it wanted to be a smoke machine...
Going wrong is always a possibility. A lot of my machines are Sega Model 1/2/3 which seem to go wrong if you look at them the wrong way. I've spent quite a lot of time getting the room insulated and heated so hopefully that'll keep the hardware gremlins at bay.
Just checked, it's still working fine To be honest I treat it almost like a rental. If it goes wrong and I can get someone round to fix it great, if not I'll sell at a loss to someone who knows what they're doing. Unless I happen to get a grail cabinet, then I'll join the ranks of the very nervous.
