Hey everyone,

This year is the big 21st for me. I have decided that I want arcade machines at the event! My
birthday is on a Saturday (01/12/2012), so thats when the party will be.

At the moment there isnt a venue, the reason being is that I would like
to know if I can get some machines and how many I can get.

Just want to know what you guys think, would people be up for it? All
those who bring machines obviously will be invited, and expenses can be discussed
once I know its going ahead.

I thought it was worth an ask and if it doesnt become a reality then at least I tried
Thanks!

Luke

Hi dude,

I think a problem that you might encounter is that people often have a no-drinks in the room policy for their own games room, so putting them out in public is always a bit iffy and doing so at a 21st where everybody will hopefully be utterly wasted

is about the most "rare fragile cab" lethal environment, unfortunately.

I'd guess that people would be less worried about lending a standard JAMMA than a minty Atari vector so you might have some luck with that.

I know it's not what you'd want to hear and I think that a load of cabs would be sweet but I thought I'd post just in case you don't get any offers.

Good luck!

Haha, Yea I'm a spring chicken! Getting into the collecting early. Just want to make it an event people will remember! Your only 21 once.

I will bring my cabs, I mean technically I have 42 games... to bad the Playchoice will only take 10 :p

I know one of the guys involved with that (least I think he is) and I can't see you having a problem with it at all, other than they may have the exact same issue regarding the drinking etc.

He's also a member here so it's possible he'll see your post now

Is he?

Oh, so he is!

Anyway, we've already replied to Luke ... we think he could put his funds to far better use than spending it on our PC-based cabs (which we typically hire out for corporate events) ... especially as he's already been offered machines by some very generous members of the arcade communities! :)

Thanks for your quick reply to my email. The first thing I would like to add is thank you for your suggestion, I will send a formal email back soon once I find a venue. I just want to get it all planed now so I don't have to do anything (apart from collect cabs) towards the date.
So far it's looking like it could be amazing ;-P

Dave - how come your post count is zero?? Have you really not posted on here before? I could have sworn you had or I wouldn't have said I thought you were a member!

Luke: good luck with the planning, and remember to drop Gord a line if you think you need our support.

Martin: Evidently not! (done my fair share of lurking, tho'

Been to look at some venues today and a few times PAT testing was mentioned. Most of the hotels/conference centres say that the machines will need to have a PAT test certificate available on request in order for us to use them. For those who have kindly said yes to me borrowing machines, are they PAT tested and if not are people willing to having them tested, which I would cover the cost for (if we discuss beforehand). If people aren't interested any more then that's ok.

I found an operator who has lots of classic machines, unfortunately I cant get hold of him. I believe he was a member here (drawfull). I tried to get in contact through twitter, facebook and is website. If anyone has any contact details then I would be very grateful.
