My MAME Arcade Cabinets (Part 03) Digital Marquee

I am pretty pleased with myself with what I have managed to get done this morning.

With my two cabs being near enough done with, I needed a next step : DIGITAL MARQUEES.

I tested out two monitors on one PC using a spare monitor and figured out how Mame does marquess natively. Part of this process revealed that it was time to upgrade my setup from Windows XP to Windows 7 Embedded as the W7 handles two monitors way better than XP.

So next was to purchase a marquee monitor.
Got lucky last weekend when a monitor that is £148 on Amazon (sent from UK) and £135 on Ebay (sent from China) was only £105 on Ebay (from China) so ordered one. It seemed to include VAT so I thought customs will not be an issue.

The monitor arrived yesterday. Around 7 days after ordering and yes no customs issues. The tracking was amazing too. Was able to see its route..... China, Hong Kong, Heathrow, Crawley, me!

Enough of the text, let the Video show begin.... you might notice that my unusual square monitor (1:1 ratio, 1920x1920) meanings I have both VERT and HORI games without any adjustments.

IMO, yes easy enough if on WINDOWS7, almost impossible on WINDOWSXP due to that getting confused easily about which is MONITOR1 / MONITOR2.

I didnt realise they did these at that size , Hard to get hold of though by the looks of it. I cant find any ! Be good for my Racing cab.

I do have SCANLINES setup on mine. As you said, probably not too clear on video........ which I don't understand as its 4k.

See photos below but a question : Is SCANLINES much different to SHADERS?
The latter seems to have more options to the extent too many options.

There are plenty out there. All sorts of sizes.
This is the one I got : 12.6 VSDISPLAY
Search with more options : ARCADE MARQUEE MONITOR

Think and look carefully before buying any. Some are open frame, some are boxed, diff sizes and resolutions.

Mine is £148 on Amazon, £138 Ebay via China but best deal was around £105 Aliexpress via China (Same seller as the one on Ebay).

No HM Customs charged on my last purchase. A second one has been shipped today.

Yeah quite different as there's simulation of the shadowmask, phosphor decay, bloom and curvature. They tend to be sharper as well than just bilinear + scanlines. I really like how the above crt-geom-deluxe looks (with reduced halation, its far too high as default) on these panels. Don't worry about the settings, the only two you want to adjust are the halation and maybe the shadowmask type (you might prefer a more pronounced mask).

Generally see one pop up on eBay every year. Not commonplace
