Hi all! I just thought I'd let everyone know about a new Bar-cade that has opened up in Peckham London. Yes the same Peckham that is famous for Dellboy Trotter and Only Fool and Horses! I visited The Four Quarters Barcade today after reading about it a week ago on a random blog, and thought I have to visit this place. To me theres nothing quite like a good beer and good classic arcade machines. It was the perfect way to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon.
All the machines take American quarters (25cents), so in going to the bar you buy your drink and some quarters to spend on the classic games scattered around the establishment. This place is pretty new so they are still looking into getting more cabinets, the ones they have are all working perfectly, although there are a couple of older machines with replacement LCD monitors installed which kind of kills it for purists (I love my Scan Lines).
The games on offer were: PacMac, Ms PacMan, Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong 2, Donkey Kong 3, Space invaders, Gorf, Tron, Wrestle Fest, Double Dragon, Smash TV, Sega Rally, Defender, Galaga, Neo Geo 6 Slot, Super Street Fighter 2, Star War Trilogy, Point Blank, Asteriods and Out Run. Plus 2 LED Pinball machines Flintstones and Adams Family.
The Owners of the Four Quarters Arcade own Retro Games Base in Stretham, so the bar staff are pretty knowledgeable and really into the whole arcade thing. The atmosphere there is really good too, and a good selection of drinks are available and decent music provides a good atmoshpere. Customers tend to be Retro enthusiasts or Couples in there Mid 30s reliving the atmosphere of the arcade. I was told on Fridays and Saturdays it gets pretty lively. They also hold various gaming tournaments from time to time upstairs where they have classic retro consoles out for customers to play for free! SNES, NES, Sega Saturns, PC Engines and a like. My only gripe was that with all those machines giving off so much heat the place could have done with some air con!
If your in London and want to visit a cool place to have a beer and play some great games then check this place out! If you have kids they are welcome until 7pm. Im bringing my boy next time to educate him about real games!
