Thought I would start a thread here as I will be doing some work on this to get it nicer. Was lucky enough to find this very local and got it for a good price, reported as not working but when I went to see it it was producing a small twisted picture but could see the game running nasty hum coming from the speaker, there were no keys so unable to look inside but was happy with what I could see. this was it when I got it home.

Very original and untouched. Managed to get the back doors off without damaging the locks or door with a close fitting key. I will file down the levers to make this key fit.

Very dirty dusty inside but good honest muck!

Have already made a couple of posts on the sound issue as after setting the pots on the screen it produced a decent picture but could do with a cap kit. I have all the caps apart from a 330uf 100v and not sure about the big 3 in 1 cap on the chassis?

Back to the sound, I had no sound apart from a loud hum tracked this down to LM3900 at L2 which is beside the volume pot, think it's a pre amp for all the sounds? this restored most sounds apart from base fire, I replaced both the LM3900's at M4 and P4 and that cured that. Also replaced all the electro caps on the sound board.

Then it started acting up! dots at the top of the screen spreading all over then freezing and or re setting! checked the 5v witch was well low at 4.678, adjusted that up and all was well again, for a short time anyway! as it started getting dots at the top of the screen mostly on the right above invaders and in the score area. I pulled the board out and re seated the cpu and roms cleaned all the edge connectors and replaced the electro caps on the motherboard. It seems ok again but I'm not convinced the problem is cured!

The control panel is fairly worn as you would expect, but I know this machine has only ever been in one arcade.

The black light needs replaced, thinking of buying a normal tube and putting the purple stuff that was wrapped around the old tube on the new one, not sure how that will work? All the bulbs in the bezel above the screen were blown luckily I had some so replaced those.

Not sure if I should do away with the psu and fit a switcher? would like to keep it as is but want it reliable and safe, those big caps on the psu look expensive, then where would I get the 18v needed for the sound?

Jobs list

Thoroughly clean the inside and out
fix the front lower panel where it's chipped
sort out the locks
fix the black light
re cap the screen
either refurb the psu or fit a switcher

when funds allow maybe a new control panel and a baze kit

will post more pics as I go, thanks for reading all comments and advice most welcome

cheers Ronnie

Nice buy
mine had random dots on screen and was a bad ram chip
the multigaame has a diagnostic

Cheers, it's cleared up for now but it was a mess when I switched it on the morning, could start a game and it was ok but soon went nuts the invaders were on steroids dropping down on you in seconds! would like the kit but I'm skint for now!

Been busy cleaning the crud inside, but decided to fit wheels to the
base for easy movement, when I tipped it on it's front I was amazed to
see it still had the transport skids fitted to the bottom from new! they
were covering where the levelers would screw in, I knew this because
they had the blue paint on the ends. few pics and showing it's new
wheels.

Hey Ronnie,

Congrats on the SI!

Where did you get those casters?
I have looked at a few from different places, however most are not up to the weight requirements, etc.

BTW, I would recommend a switcher, or better test the boardset outside the cab to rule things out.
Often the linear is dodgy on these cabs and needs either a re-build or replaced with a switcher.

18v?...the sounds needs 12v afaik, my SI L-shape runs fine on a Jamma adapter (home-made) and switcher, etc. I still need to fix my monitor, however low on the repair list!

Cheers,
DaveO.

Hi David,

Thanks for the info, I was thinking about a switcher or complete refurb of the psu it has, seems a lot of wires going to that psu! I think I read you tie reset to ground?

Do you have any idea what the sense wire is for? it goes nowhere is it an Ariel?

Any pics of yours with the switcher fitted?

cheers Ronnie
