You’d assume theyre not going to let the ratio be changed to 16:9 which would require a border which would suggest they’ll then likely include other “upgrades”

Although never understood the appeal myself outside them being on an actual crt
I'd have thought it would be the full scan width and it's up to the user to sort the aspect ratio (or annoy people like me by running everything in Eric Cartman-vision). Should certainly be that way on the RGB output anyway.

Scanline simulation on an HDMI output is pretty much the norm these days.

I wonder how much of it is actually designed at this stage. Suppose it should be if it's going to hit the release date and they're going to spend a fortune getting ASICs made.

Wouldn’t the option require some operating system over the top? Potentially could be selected via dipswitches or a modified bios.

Hopefully they don’t lump some sort of rendering over the top and its output based. (Scart or HDMi) Would have thought any sort of visual processing would impact performance.

For HDMI it's going to have to upscale to a common resolution as I don't think 240P on HDMI is a standard resolution. Plus you'd want image size adjustments built-in as you can't adjust a modern LCD like you could an arcade CRT (other than 16:9, 4:3, lettterbox etc)

Scanline emulation would presumably then involve just dimming every nth line or so as it scans out, so I think you could do all that in hardware fairly easily and without any post-processing delay (I think you could do it on a line-by-line basis rather than even needing to buffer a frame).
I'd expect Scart would be straight out like it is on MiSTer etc.
I would be surprised if it didn't have some GUI in the background for options. You could easily overlay stuff onto the video whilst keeping the main emulation (cough) separate/authentic I'd have thought.

Just got on board with this and pre-ordered on Amazon.

I was trying to justify it in my head when I already have an AES and games.

It seems too good to be true.
Garou, Metal Slug, KOF2002 and SSVS all at £70 each. That's the same as a China repro, but with a snap lock and artwork... its unbelievable.

I think, to make it believable, some photos soon rather than 3D renders, would be a good thing if it's all coming out in November.
I don't think the tech or the price makes it all all too-good-to-be-true, the more you look, there's just still a whiff of 'concept art' about the thing.

They have them on display in a shop in Japan. How "complete" they are is another question.

I'm looking forward to getting a non scratched up AES console, hopefully the RGB video will be better than the original console as all but the early production models suffered from a few quality issues due to component changes, meaning the MVS hardware tended to offer a sharper picture.

In terms of hardware there was also the zero-slot motherboards (system and single game on a pcb) used on the SVC Chaos, Metal Slug 5 that were released before the MVS cartridge versions of those games to prevent bootlegging. Those had a more modern board layout.

Not exactly strange hardware is it. Just a PCB like 99% of all arcade game hardware. These YouTube titles drive me up the wall.
