Fault: Static coloured blocks on screen, no activity and not booting up.

All clocks were tested fine however checking the address lines showed that A5 was stuck high. Traced to 5C pin 5. Replaced 5C (74LS367) and board booted. Game now plays except no sound. Working on that just now.

Has it still got the encrypted cpu block? There's a fix out for that now to use a normal processor and a hs mod too I believe.

Hey, Yes still got the block. I heard about the fix but another custom board needs to be made as it plugs in with a 40 way socket thats not the usual dil type.

My fix was short lived. The game played for a bit but in chasing the sound, noticed a small glitch on the attract screen was starting. The ram had been soldered previously, and not very well so reflowed them then the whole background got garbled. Ended up changing the ram so now back to a game again. Sound sort of works but noise breaking though a lot so gonna change the sound chip again as suspect it has a faulty channel.

Keep you posted but game now running to heat up and see if it survives that

Ah ok. I took a look at the link thanks. Interesting stuff so at least if my processor block goes then Im not totally stuck.

Have you any experience of these boards?

I like the game and have a couple of original boards hiding away. (along with a data east fire trap) in case I ever get a cab to put them in!

Kl. They are pretty rare I think, always wanted one and luckily enough picked one up of Steve Harkins. Always made a beeline for the game when I was younger but didnt see them much. Think I have the sound almost working. Sound chip was gubbed. Now Im getting music but no speech or other sounds so looking at their odd way of making speech using eproms and a few chips. Pre speech chips I guess in 1980.
