Phill,
Not surprised really, these days a P266MMX is NOT the perfect base for a
retro mame cab! I just did the deed with a P200MMX with 128mb memory and
some built in S3 Trio chipset, and while I'm extremely impressed with
the results for my purposes, I couldn't really dream of flogging it for
much.
It does the classic era games that I want to play perfectly like
Frogger, Crazy Kong et. Al. (and after a night of sitting there tweaking
umpteen video modes I really DO mean perfectly!), but it won't even do
Asteroids (funnily enough it DOES do Asteroids deluxe respectably!), let
alone something as intensive as (sharp intake of breath) Bubble
Bobble...
So, you see as a lot of people that want a mame cab want to play stuff
like Mortal Kombat, Rtype, Street Fighter 3mjillion and one super duper
edition, they're gonna need way more than what we're playing with!
I do agree with you on the sentiment though - try selling something like
that and you get 30 quid. When I wanted to buy something like that,
bloody hell, different matter altogether, I had to pay 150. But I did
get 17" monitor, color printer and cable modem too (not that I have
cable!!)
As for the SI cab...
Worth? - I'd give £50-£100 for the cab (don't like the game and if it
were only a shel)...
Mess? - Yeah, he's probably ripped the guts out, but pure speculation!
Would he get more with a board? - Undoubtedly. Fickle world this. Unless
of course he tried selling it on UKVAC in which case he's get the piss
taken out of him
)
Guddler.
