[ukvac] OT: Playing sounds in Mame
OT I know but I need acess to some Galaxian samples, preferably of
the individual sounds separated from any other "in game noise". Does
anyone know if its posible to force the playing of individual sounds
in Mame? If not, does anyone have access to individual sound files
for player shots, explosions etc etc?

TIA!

Well, yes ....

but you would have to modify the game roms afaics, as the code to generate
the sounds are in the game roms not in mame.

If you are any good at coding you could find the sound codes, and write a
program rom that presents you with a menu to jump to the different sounds in
the sound rom

You could always use the option to play mame while recording it. I've
never used this option, but I believe it produces an AVI. If there's
sound in there then you must be able to rip it and cut it up surely?

I think test mode in galaxian allows you to trigger some of the sounds
seperately, try that.

if not, you need to find the set of samples that went with early versions of
mame or vantage.

Oh nothing too exciting... I used to be a programmer many moons ago but migrated into art (in the games development field that is). Now I have a little spare time at work I decided to do some coding again to see just how rusty I was, and Galaxians is the game of chocie to recreate!

Looking quite good too, if I do say so myself :)
