[ukvac] OT: PS2 Power Supply Problems
Hi all!
I'm hoping that someone might be able to help me out here...
I have a PlayStation 2 which had a whole glass of coke poured over it.
Anyway, after it dried out, I done the usual repair job for water damaged
stuff and replaced some fuses that had blown on the boards. Replaced the 2A
slow blow fuse on the power board, plugged it in and *FLASH*! The 2A fuse
blew again.
I managed to borrow a power supply board from a friend's PS2 to double check
see if it was the mother board blowing the fuse, and it booted up with no
problems. Which led me to replace the fuse in the PSU and switch it on
without being in the console. It blew the fuse again.
Now the tricky part... I've checked all the diodes on that board several
times and they're all working fine. There is, however, a couple of MOSFETs
on there and a couple of zeners. I don't have a way to test the zener diodes
and the MOSFETs don't look 'blown'... Anyone have any ideas what's blowing
the fuse each time? My first thought was for the diodes to have failed, but
now I have no clue. I don't really want to splash out £20 on another power
board if the problem can be solved for a couple of quids worth of
components. Everything on there looks like it can be obtained from a normal
electronics retailer...
Thanks for your time! Hope to hear back soon!
Kindest regards,
Brian
