[ukvac] OT: StarRoms thing
Well, just joined up, and purely by chance the game i downloaded for my freebie
was Lunar Lander. I picked this because it uses a background art file.

First thing, the background art file is shown on their download page, but not
included in the download. Hmmm

Secondly and more importantly, the download includes a duff rom image. I had no
idea Lunar Lander included a rom for which there is "no known good dump", and
the image is 2k of '0xFF' So indeed, it seems they are putting no extra work in
whatsoever aside from getting a bit of paper and commision / royalty scheme from
Atari.

So i've emailed them, not so much complaining as i didn't expect any different,
more just pointing it out, congratulating them and looking forward to the day
when they can supply the real deal :O) I don't expect a desperately favourable
response!

Oh, and you can download an electronically signed email with the consent from
Atari in it (allegedly). I won't be bothering as there isnt really much point.
I'm sure if anyone came knocking on my door they'd probably be more interested
in the 4,500 or so other roms that i don't have permission for than the 1 i do!!

And no, i doubt i'll be buying any credits.

As i said to them. Nice idea, but i look forward to the day they've put the
effort in to do it properly.

Anyway, that was an interesting morning, now i guess i'd better do some work...

Martin.

Thing is about star roms, is that they are just another rom-seller. ok so they are "paying" atari (or warner or kellogs , or whoever the f**k owns them this week) a royalty on every rom sold but they've been going for at LEAST 5 years to my knowledge and still have no more games than they did all that time ago!
