[uk-vac] OT: uk-vac flames
Someone got out of bed the wrong side and sent a Friday flame a bit too late...
> talk about MAME on the PSP, or maybe how to get stronger RGB levels out of a PS1.
> [...] getting MAME to work, or how to convert a home console to run in a cab.

Hmm yeah, that'd be good - people could stop asking questions about actually playing arcade games or finding other uses for their arcade cabinets because that would be irrelevant to the group. Then the old techies who've been on the net so long they can remember when usenet the king (and never hesitate to tell everyone they remember that) won't have to whinge that too few people are asking technical questions (like which end of a multimeter is which, or how to hook a centipede board up backwards to play edepitnec) to give them the chance to be the fount of all knowledge...

Hey, let's do a Google groups search for some of the old techies. 10 years! Is that all? But before that, a true l33t - running a BBS! Lost one of the Bs recently?

Sorry to burst the bubble, but I suspect that many people like a bit of off-topic stuff. I thought this list was about building a community, not just an endless stream of dry technical questions, or requests for parts? Maybe I'm wrong but if so then judging by your own stats so are 40% of the posters. I think that rumours of the death of the list may have been greatly exaggerated...

No more offence intended than received,
Ross

Surely as long as we're posting something that relates to arcade games
in some way, it's worthy of being on UK-VAC, isn't it?

I would say UKVAC is OK for MAME and anything else arcade and retro gaming
related.
I'm sure that it was mentioned a year or two ago that during an exhibition
someone had to swap a game PCB for a PC running an emulated version just to
keep it working. ;-)
Let's not get all heated up about this, the posts are pretty low these days
anyway.

Along the same lines, I only recently joined this group and I did so
as I am building a MAME cabinet.
I thought it would be the most relevant group if I had any
questions, and I've already asked a couple.
(I've been more a pinball fanatic up until now really, and only just
started with the mame cab).

Is it generally felt that this group is more for dedicated arcade
cabs rather than mame, and if so,is there a different group more
appropriate for people like me? I'm unlikely to ask (very)technical
questions as I have to build my knowledge from scratch, so I still
have to learn the questions before I can ask for help with the
answers.

Is this your first day here??

Sadly you are right, but in effect, too many "old timers" have been
tainted by stupid questions in the past and just got annoyed with the
same question over and over..

Rav, lets get a web forum up and running, we can make this place great
again. Leave the list, but make the forum an extension of it - have a
FAQ etc on there. i'm sure UKVAC.com could do with a bit of a spring
clean in any event.

Well, I am relatively new to UK-VAC!

Perhaps I could take this opportunity to flag up the fact that I'm still
looking for a Super-Sprint machine (the three-wheel version). I've found
a Championship Sprint, but still keen to get a Super Sprint.

Many thanks to all,

Jason.

Re: [uk-vac] Re: OT: uk-vac flames
if you are building a mame machine i would recommend
forums on arcadecontrols.com they are far more useful
and you won't get flamed for posting anything that
someone else deems "stupid". they also have a forum
for arcade related stuff.
