[ukvac] OT: UPS Ebay Advice [Now Parts Required]
Ok I did the right thing and paid the guy his money back

Looking at the unit there does not seem to be a 110/240v selector and
the stickers n all look same so maybe he was right in that it’s a
genuine fault.

This though brings me onto me next problem :( Fixing it...

Upon taking a look inside all the parts look ok apart from what looks to
be a large ish trisistor with part code "7563 7P"

Farnell and RS don’t seem to stock them so was wondering if you lot have
any ideas

Not bein a tech wiz with electronic repairs my skills are only replacing
bad (or looking ) bad parts, any advice why this item might have gone or
might be a string of items would be welcomed.

Parts around this look fine other than some discolouring slightly by it
and a resistor (seems to be a resistor)

Adam

(maybe if ne1 out there might consider a repair? Any takers?)

I'm suspecting that the ups must be switchmode based (both mains
input and output).

### safety ###

If you find any resistors which have gone open circuit - especially
around the mains input side (which sounds like the bit which went
bang to me !!) - Some of these tend to be "fuse-able" type resistors
which are "safety critical items" and MUST be replaced with the same
type.

Oh yer, I Love fixing switchmode power supplies... especially when it
all goes pop for the 3rd time with a buzzing noise and blue sparks
round the transitor legs !!!

### more safety ###

Oh and be carefull around the main capacitor as there may be about
350v across it, even if the thing aint working !!! This can be
checked with a multimeter set to DC on say 1000V range.

Not sure of a safe way to discarge now..... think it was a wet finger
across the terminals or something..... or connect a 6mm^2 bare
stripped piece of copper wire into the Plant pot next to the tv,
whilst wearing a pair of wet wellingtons and matching pvc
underwear ??? .... ( in other words - lets not start a long thread
again guys - and what I get up to at the weekend is my buisiness !!! -
plus I've had a busy day in work !!! )

### more safety ###

If you dont know what you are doing , then I would advise dont do
it... If you do think that you know what you are doing , then please
be carefull :)

Thanks, Regards,
Colin
